Game Thread: New Mexico Highlands @ Wyo

I saw a shot go up and Dalton put his head down and find a guy to box out. I didn't see that last game.

Morris with a sick drive to basket. That dude is a good player. He needs to play. I'll take his offensive strength with his apparent defensive shortcomings. He's too explosive to be on the bench

Quiet in here tonight. Guess not much enthusiasm playing division 2 teams lol

I got the Beavs on TV and Pokes on the laptop.
Beavs in a close game, Pokes just destroying a D2 team so my attention is more on OS. Not much to watch in the Wyo game.

Glad we are scoring. But until we do it against some D1 talent I won't really be impressed. I want us to score 100 and hold those guys to under 50.

Trey is starting to grow on me. I honestly didn't think he'd stay but I like a lot of his game. Loved that little runner he just had

West Texas A&M beat these guys by 15. Grand Canyon beat them by 31.

Not sure what our problem is. We were up by like 25 and then let off or something.

We are still shooting too many 3's.

No one driving to the basket as much as they could and scoring but instead just settling for 3's a bunch of the time.

Marshall still not playing at all.

Hope we come to play against Montana St. and not let up.

My stream started getting choppy so I haven't watched, but what the hell is happening?
Not as good as we expected...

I suppose not.

I'm a little concerned. And by "a little concerned" I mean, freaking nervous about what might happen this season.

Well we beat them by 1 more point then West Texas A&M did lol

We seemed to start the game playing good defense but then got lackadaisical and quit playing defense and we got out rebounded 40-27 against a D2 team. Can't imagine what teams in the MWC will do to us on the boards.

I really really hope we improve a lot before conference.

Don't get me wrong, I think LS is a really good coach, but one glaring deficiency I've seen in all of his teams is a lack of rebounding skills. For the life of me I cannot understand how a DII school can come in and work the Pokes on the boards like this. Rebounding doesn't require great height (Charles Barkley was only 6'5" yet was one of the best ever in both college and the pros). What is does require is a commitment to learning HOW to rebound. So my question, if I could talk to LS and his staff, why aren't your kids any good at rebounding? I understand his philosophy of getting back on defense so the offensive rebounding suffers, but nobody knows how to box out on the defensive end. New Mexico Highlands had 40 rebounds to our 27. If Wyoming has an Achilles heel, more than anything else, it is a lack of rebounding. Come conference time, that shit will kill us.

Big night for Josh, had a few highlight reel plays. Like others, I'm not certain why Marshall gets no run. He seems to be our most explosive player to the hoop after Adams, but he's virtually never on the floor. A little better game from Herndon on the offensive end finally, but he has no fire at all on the boards. It's pretty sad actually but I think our best rebounders right now are Adams, Washington, and James. Hence we've gotten destroyed on the boards every game so far and likely will continue to do so. Still very much enjoying watching the young guys grow but likely will be a pretty bumpy season. I think on nights that we catch fire from the arc we'll be pretty dangerous, but on nights that we're cold........ ugh.
