Game Thread: New Mexico Highlands @ Wyo

This board is a strange place. We have a team with one senior, two juniors (one is new to the team), and the rest freshman and sophomores. We won comfortably, but not as comfortably as we could have considering the start. But now the sky is falling for some. We didn't win by as many as we should have, etc.yadda,yadda,yadda.

I"ll take the win and chalk the "lack of a major blowout" to getting experience and learning how to play together.

Before the season, the storyline was "This is a young team and it will take a while for them to figure out their roles and continue to work on playing together and getting better. Its gonna have ups and downs esspecially early but will be fun to see how the season progresses"

After the "3rd" game" everyone is freaking out because we suck and our young guys don't have everything figured out yet.

I haven't seen anything that has suprised me. We aren't going to be a strong rebounding team this year. Shyatt said it himself"we are thin inside and we aren't going to get any bigger". We have a lot of shooters and the coaching staff is apparently comfortable with the amount of 3's we are shooting. This team will continue to get better but don't expect them to start manhandling teams on the boards but I could see Barnes growing into a solid rebounder over the course of the year.
Relax and enjoy the ride of the season and don't freak out everytime we have a down, which last night really wasn't, I think the team learned a lot last night. HAd a team crawl back and they stepped up and made plays to put them away down the stretch.

it's ok and for those expecting way too much, step back, take a breath and take it for what it is, rebuilding year, it'll be fun to watch them grow, learn and be better, we don't win MWC tourneys and Conferences and going to NCAA's all that often so when we build something special then it's even more fun to watch

was at game. My thoughts:

Josh Adams is amazing. Three incredible plays from him tonight. The two dunks and that block. wow. His back is going to be sore all season from carrying this team.

We got murdered on the boards as many have said. It is a lot worse when James and Barnes are out. This is going to kill us all year long. Herndon, I'm trying not to pile on, but dang. He's like a 7th grade girl out there. Dalton gets shoved around, too.

Offense is still garbage. If we rely on the three like this we'll win maybe 10 games this year.

James is talented. JJ needs to drive to the hole whenever possible because good things happen. Trey Wash needs to play more, he's much better than Lieberman at this point.

I have no clue why Marshall isn't playing. it makes no sense especially since we can't rebound. He is obviously an elite athlete, who can score, defend and REBOUND. It makes no sense at all. I hope he stays positive because it's getting ridiculous.

And the crowd sucked. Was like a morgue. This is what happens when you lose your banner-raisin game to ft. shit state. People don't want to come back. Hope everyone's happy about that.
Was there as well. Couldn't agree more. Nearly 8k at the Fort Lewis game with all the excitement from last season. We won't see 8k again after we shit our pants in that game. I already hear fans saying here we go again, just like football. We needed to capitalize and build on the momentum when the banner was raised. I don't give shit if it was an exhibition or not, give the fans something to get excited about.
Seriously. Everyone jumped down my throat when I was pissed we lost. Oh it's an exhibition, we're getting experience! Bull. It's still a game we had to pay for and we got a crap product and an embarrassing loss. Stupid, stupid, stupid move by Shyatt to lose that game. I hope HE'S happy with the garbage crowds there'll be the rest of the way.
I would have agreed with you Lander, and do so now. But I stayed away from the board after that crap ass game. Losing to CSU that day was bad enough, then lose to Fort Lewis drove me to binge drinking for a week.

How 6'9" Alan Herndon played 28 minutes and got ZERO rebounds boggles my mind. I know he's not a low post banger, and that he's skinny, but damn.

I feel like I remember some saying during his RS season he didn't take advantage of it and didn't beef up, and now I think we might be seeing the negative results of it.

I don't get how he isn't able to go down low and get rebounds.

He just gets moved out of the way as if he isn't there. I see him boxing out, but he gets pushed under the basket. Plus he's not a great jumper. yeah. He's truly a 6'10'' guard.
