Game Day : New Mexico St. @ Wyoming ....

I respectfully disagree, We are just as deep as we thought we were which is still deeper than it has been in the past and Shyatt has faith in the bench or he wouldn't have played the bench so much yesterday. Sure the bench isn't going to have 30 min of game time but 3 bench players had 19/19/11 mins and that is still a pretty large amount.

Your stats would seem to back my point up. Had Nance and Cooke not sat out the last 7 minutes of the first half with fouls and Cooke foul out the last 4 minutes you'd see Nance's minutes around 37-38 and Cooke at 30+. That combined with Grabau playing 38 minutes, Adams 37 and Hank probably would've had 30+ too were it not for fouls.

I'd also point out that 90% of our scoring was from the 5 starters.

I don't know if you attended the game or not, but in person it was very clear that Shyatt was not looking at the bench whatsoever unless he absolutely had to.

Before the season Shyatt specifically mentioned he would like to not play Grabau 38 minutes a game. It's apparent we aren't there yet. I'm not getting down on this team, I still think it's one of the best Wyoming teams POTENTIALLY in the last 25 years. But right now, we're going as far as the starters will take us. It's still early in the season and that was our first real test. Hopefully as we get into more tight games some other guys step up.

Considering he played the bench just a little less than he has played them in the previous 5 games combined I still disagree. I mean sure I expected them to start getting less floor time against harder teams unless we had built a lead.

The only reason they have seen so much time is we have had big enough leads that he could risk it. We never had a big enough lead to risk it. The only thing that was off to me is Lieberman didn't see the floor and that is just one player so it is possible he has less faith in Lieberman but I believe that Sellers has earned his time.

I don't think its a coincidence that the three bench players who got good minutes were the three players who were in the program last year.

Bench players are exactly that. They are meant to be serviceable while starters sit. They aren't there to win your game but to not hurt you so bad. It was tight. Most teams would play the bench less in tight game. I thought sellers did exactly what you'd want from a bench player. I'm happy for him especially considering where he was a few years ago. I think we are definitely deeper but we still don't have a true sixth man.

It will help getting Trey Washington back in my opinion. Also I think once Gorski gets that thing off of his hand he will be a big contributor. He already looks good in my opinion with his size and shot. He rebounds well. Just needs to get into game shape.

Big contributor is a big stretch IMO.

I think the rotation we saw last night is what we'll see against the better teams we face. He'll go deeper into bench against the lesser opponents.

In my opinion from a physical standpoint and potential wise I think Gorski looks like he could be more of a contributor than anyone else I have seen on the bench. Problem is he has been hurt so he didn't get to come in as much in those games when he could have got more playing time. I think he will end up with more playing time then most of the bench players as the season goes on and he doesn't have to wear a cast or splint on his hand.

As of right now I agree that last night is what we will see until Trey Washington gets back he will play a lot also .

Every time I read these threads the day after all I can do is roll my eyes. Bunch of freak outs and some of you are so quick to shit on our teams.
No kidding. We WIN a game against a top 40, NCAA tournament TEAM and you'd think we go blown out by a junior high team. Holy crap. NMSU IS A GREAT TEAM and they will win a ton of games this year. We are a better team. Not every game we play will be a 25 point blow out with dunk after dunk and Sportcenter highlights.

Any team that's been to three straight tournaments is a better program than us and I actually consider it a minor upset that we won

Thats a fair assessment. My comment was a result of the eye test. I was at the game, and in my opinion, we were the better team hampered by untimely fouls. NMSU most certainly has a ton of talent but their game is physicality. They want to rattle your cage then hit their shots. It will work for them this year, a lot. We handled and played their game and prevailed. Nance was the best player on the court, hands down. There were a couple of stretches where he could not, and would not, be stopped.

And nance was actually off a bit during the first half. Missed some shots and put-ins
But thundered back in the 2nd half and showed why is the pre-season favorite for POY in the MWC.
