For those of you that attended the Nevada game,

Yes, I'll enjoy the new digs with a fully renovated AA but the most important thing is that it will help Papa Shy recruit. Facilities matter. We need everything in our favor to begin winning some of these recruiting battles.

I like how this is set up. I think this years recruiting class is Shyatts best. He's got one of the best defensive small forwards in high school basketball and one of the best defensive centers in high school basketball.

Next year he'll be recruiting with a practice court, better sound system, locker rooms, medical faciliities, weight room, video boards, ribbon boards..... In addition, he's going to be recruiting with a team that has a pretty solid record(most likely).

The year after that the whole building will be finished. That should really make an impression on recruits, especially front range guys that know Wyoming has the nicest college building all the way down to Albuquerque.

The games that are broadcast by UW equipment will never sound loud sine they don't have multiple mics and cameras which is the same reason you a ever hear on count sounds.

Anyone know the attendance of sdsu @ usu game? That place was loud as shit.

10,127

About half of that students.

We need to beat Fresno and then I expect another big crowd for Utah State! That crowd was rocking, right up there with CU and SDSU last year

They have mics on each basket superstructure, but not sure if they are using them or not. They probably turned off the one I sit next to because of my yelling.

I guess upgrading to having arguably the best arena in this region isn't appealing to some on this board.

Not really how I understood it. Your post is comical. Upgrades are always great. I question whether some are necessary, and whether those dollars could be spent in better served directions.

Example: The wildcatter suites at the War are fantastic. But why weren't they taken all the way to the edge of the upper east stands? Why wasn't a FULL commercial kitchen put in place? Why weren't elevators put in 3 locations (North, South, and the already designed Central) - to accommodate the suites better? Etc., Etc., Etc.

Further, my point was that there are some fans of Wyoming, that were lost - collateral damage if you will - from the whole Burman / Schroyer debacle. And those fans, will probably never return. The guy at the helm is no visionary - as I am sure you have seen me write many times before. So I wonder again, is the AA remodel going to be 85% great?

So you would rather they don't touch it unless they can absolutely please everyone?

There's always going to be issues with certain upgrades, but it is better to do some rather than none at all.
The AA hasn't been touched in years, but because it isn't going to be perfect we are going to complain about it?

It is going to be so damn nice when it is done, I don't see the reason to complain about it.

1. No - I didn't say that. Is that what you took from what I wrote - seriously?

2. There should never be issues with upgrades - that is why they are called upgrades. And it is never a good idea to do something half-assed, as you will end up doing it again - and soon. And FYI - the AA HAS been touched in years. There have been (off the top of my head) at least 9 upgrades of varying amounts / types over the last 32 years.

3. Again, show me where I am complaining about it? I am stating a fact that I have seen play out many times at UW (read wildcatter suites post above). New Mexico dumped over 60 million into the Pit, just so you are aware, within the last few years - have you been there to see it? Ever been to the Thomas & Mack in Vegas that opened basically a year later than the AA? There is NO comparison of the 3.

Im just pointing out that you are being very negative about the renovations...
And you seem like it wasn't done the way YOU want it so you think its a bad idea.

That's what you are leading on anyways, and I am definitely not the only who sees it that way.

As to the upgrades the only "major" things they have done is add the video board about tenish years ago and make the handicap seating. What others am i missing?

I think you're confusing negativity with healthy, skeptical critique.

I agree. Fans closer to the court will make it much much better. But we have got to get more than 6k fans to the games. That's kind of weak IMO. It's hard to believe that schroyer buried this team that much. People still don't want to come? Shyatt has done a remarkable job. I love how this team plays. Very well coached and disciplined. Is schroyer still at unlv or wherever he went?

Being negative about the renovations isn't / wasn't my intention. I am (and always will) throw out there my opinion on things, as to question (more or less) if things are being done half assed, or being done...just to be done.

I think upgrades are great. Are they really necessary for the AA? No. Personally, I think UW should have more of a visionary and leader at the helm...and we have been shown to be far from having that.

A visionary would do something like this (below) for basketball - just my opinon:

The ones that I thought of when I posted (probably missed a few):

The offices, weight room / locker room / R&R room, hand rails, video board (although I liked the original versions much more - I hate that the "brackets" are still hanging there - very low budget move), complete floor surface reconditioned (many times actually - twice or three times I believe it was taken down completely not just reconditioned), seating as you mentioned, foyer renovations & displays, Media room / interview room, complete paint job and banners - interior, exterior dress up / roof resurfacing (twice?)...

Some of which certainly is maybe just upkeep (floor for instance on certain occasions just being refinished).

I want it to be like The Pit.
I've never been to ABQ. I really want to go to a b-ball game there.
I gotcha McPeachy, I thought you were just complaining about it.
But I think that with what is supposed to be done, it will be really, REALLY nice, and loud, and a top venue in the MWC.

Also, I agree about Burman. I don't think he is that great of an AD, but for the time being, he is doing okay. DC was a fail, but maybe that's more on not having funds.

I like what they are doing to the AA, and what Shyatt is doing to the program.

McPeachy, have to agree with you about half-assed upgrades/renovations/new buildings/etc. We do have to give TB kudos even though he has said the stadium upgrade is complete; he still continues working on improving things in the stadium--there have been complaints about the concession/restroom situation on the lower west side and TB apparently has reacted: there are now heating ducts in the ceiling of the maintenance shed/concession stands (I think propane flames shooting through them as needed) and I noticed a couple of port-a-potties near the garage door entrance at the game I attended this year. And if the word I have heard is correct, because of the electric problems (i.e., power outage delaying the start of a night-time game several years ago) TB saw to it that the TV for the Fresno game was powered by a large portable generator this year thus removing one power drain from the electrical system problem which must not have been fully addressed as yet. So even though the upgrade/renovation to the stadium is complete, TB continues to work on improving things!

I have to admit that I have not been a proponent of some of the arguments for such upgrades; i.e., especially recruitment. Agree that a recruit will look at locker rooms positively or negatively as part of his/her decision. But I highly doubt that a recruit is concerned about whether some fans have a few extra inches of butt room with a cup holder; I would expect they would be more interested in whether he/she will be playing for a program and coach with a winning tradition and hopefully the institution's standing academically in the field he/she is interested in pursuing. I have attended games over the years at the Pit (not since its renovation), the Mack, in Ft. Collins, in Provo and Salt Lake, and a few other places and for me, I was more impressed with fan attendance/participation, or lack thereof, than whatever frills the venue offered. If a fancy/plush facility is necessary to make it to the NCAA's, how in the heck did the Rams make it in a couple of years ago?

I don't think a recruit cares about a couple more inches of buttroom, but I know a lot of fans that care about a couple of inches of buttroom. They especially care if their cup holder is allowed to hold a beer in it. This is just another way for Wyoming to create another revenue stream. The padded seats with cup holders will be a part of the McMurry club section, and that section is likely to serve beer. If that's the case, those seats are definitely going to be in higher demand then the ones that don't serve beer.

Any way we can increase the salary/recruiting money for Shyatt is a net positive for the team. Our budget is the real problem and the renovations provide help for that.
