Football Recruiting

Not knowing exactly how recruiting works, how do folks read the fact that we have very few true "defensive" recruits committed thus far? We have quite a few "athletes," some/most of which will no doubt play defense, and still quite a bit of time before Signing Day...but I was hoping to see more linebackers and defensive linemen in this class (maybe I shouldn't...as we may have quite a few coming off of redshirting?). Again, maybe we will have some commit, others may come from the "athletes" and others still might come from JUCO...I just don't know how this all works, but do trust Bohl and co. to get it done. NDSU has seen quite a few players hit the League, so he has to know something about talent.

Looking at rivals, it looks like a lot are listed on the defense.

Is it true that CSU only has 7 commits? Only one 3 star. I checked both rivals and espn. Kinda weird.

He knows something about talent sure, but so do the other FBS coaches he is recruiting against. He is no longer at a power house school. He no longer has the NDSU dynasty to sell to recruits. He has what he wants to build at Wyo to sell.

The nice thing about Athlete recruits is they can play either and are usually LB/CB/S position or W/KR/PR and we need those.

These "athlete" players also tend to be able to adapt to whatever position they need to, and can put on the weight in the weight room too.

Take a highschool QB, redshirt him and a couple years later you could have a 2 or 3 year started at MLB or FS.

Sorry beav. I disagree with you. As a collegiate coach myself I gaurantee you Bohl is in every living room pumping them full of " look what I did at ndsu!!!!! And now I am going to do it at wyo!!! And you (the recruit) are going to be the guy that everyone talks about in 20 years as one of the guys that turned wyoming into a mwc power!" He is using his body of work at ndsu in every recruiting conversation that he has. Guaranteed.

Fair enough. That's interesting.

So with that in mind, do you think Gary Andersen is telling OS recruits how he turned around Utah State and how he went into Wisconsin and won a lot and produced a Heisman Finalist?

I'm mostly just curious as to how he recruits since I know he tries to build great relationships with the players and he is so family oriented.

Absolutely any coach is going to use what they have done as a selling point to get recruits to buy in.

Yeah GA most def is saying those things. The athletes that bohl (and GA) are recruiting all have hopes and dreams to make the league and they will talk about that too. And the thing is, Bohl will get them to the league if AND ITS A BIG IF, the athlete has the talent and drive to make it. Recruiting is the best part of my job. I absolutely love it. And Bohl has such a great personality I can't even imagine how excited kids must be after he leaves their house. GA is no different imo.
