CSU @ WYO Game Thread

When it's one of the worst offenses in the country? Maybe. But the point was MSU only putting up 14 on a very bad D. Or did we forget we have been going off on our D?

Does Purdue have a very bad D or do they have a very hard schedule? Their losses before the game with Michigan State were to Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Northern Illinois and Nebraska. Generally speaking these are teams that can put some points on the board. Not exactly Idaho and Northern Colorado. My point was that we are going to play a top team in a top conference on their home field. I think that does not bode well for us. But who knows, maybe we'll play them close, that might be victory enough!

On a side note...it was really sweet to see the interview with Joe Tiller on the sideline during the game. He brought up that he gets annoyed at the crappy "pump-up" music they blare over the crappy sound system. From what I heard, he basically said that players today are too soft and are catered to a bit too much...aka, lack of Cowboy toughness.

Asked if he missed being on the sideline, Joe stated that he missed gameday...but not so much the week leading up to gameday.

Gosh. I don't know what to say after such a loss.... What happened and how do we fix it? That's my first thought as a coach. I questioned if CDC had what it took to be a head coach after the Nevada game last year. It was obvious to me at that time he didn't have what it takes.

I have certainly never doubted his ability to recruit QB's and skill players but that just won't cut it. He is not a good gameday coach and it shows. Anyone can calls plays as long as they are executed correctly. No play in football is designed NOT to score. I would look like an offensive genius if every play I called was executed to perfection. X's and O's are overated. I could run the wishbone or single wing if I had the right players to execute it. Same goes for defense.

There may be a serious lack of balance on this team. I haven't looked it up yet, but how many offensive player scholarships do we have compared to defensive scholarships? If that number is balanced, then we need to look at the coaching. I'm not sold on Tormey. He is too conservative. When we switched to a 3-4 this year, I would have thought that run-blitzes would have been included as part of the scheme. Yet we have our LBs playing 5-7 yds off the line? Defensive front looks to be running a straight gap defense with no stunts or twists. I honestly believe we have the talent up front, but we can't keep having these guys continue to try and bullrush everyone.

Bring it!

It was a terrible loss. But for crying out loud it's not the end of the season. CDC officially on the hot seat? Give it a rest. You can only call plays and prepare your team but you can't coach effort. WYO players came out with no desire. I talked with my offense on the exact same thing after a 47-14 loss last night. We were completely prepare, my boys knew their assignments ( things that have given us success all year) They got on the field and there was no desire and no effort. Just like today. Sometimes that's just how it goes. Call it complacency or whatever you want but effort falls straight on the players.

I'm not a CDC hater....but squib kick before half? Wtf.

Outplayed. Outcoached.

Yeah we were outplayed. Our special teams calls are not made by CDC. I was watching, his head set was off and he was talking to Smith and a few other offensive players. I don't know who made the call, and yes it was a bad call. But it wasn't CDC.

And I'm not defending, we sucked. All I'm doing is giving you a coaches perspective. CSU gained momentum on us after several 3 and outs. Herron had no desire to be on the field today. Smith struggled, but when he is putting the ball in your hands, you catch it! Do you want to blame the coach for that? We had 1 guy show up today and give his all and that was Ruffran. You cant succeed with only one guy making plays. I would also say Easton, but his one big run was against backups. Watching this game was eerily similar to my blowout loss last night.
Also, I will not write off the season on losing, and even losing badly to a rival. It's like you all said. It's csu, throw out all the stats and just show up. CSU did, we did not. I doubt SJS beats us on the ground. They really have no ground game which gives us an advantage. I'm over this and ready for next week.

I will straight up keep saying it. You cannot coach desire and you can't coach effort. At some point it falls on the players. This again is coming from an outside coaching perspective, not a fans perspective.

47-14 and its ALL ON THE PLAYERS???

“I don’t believe in team motivation. I believe in getting a team prepared so it knows it
will have the necessary confidence when it steps on a field and be prepared to play a
good game.” Vince Lombardi

Well... ;) there is that...

I never try to motivate. I prepare. Hours of game film with fellow coaches till we know everything about our opponent. Their go to plays. Their 3rd and short play calls, their 3rd and medium and 3rd an longs, the same with their every down. Same for their Defense. I watch for when they will more than likely blitz, who they blitz and so forth. I focus on an opponent till I feel I could easily be one of their coaches, cause I know their ins and outs. I know who to look out for.
Then we have team film and give each guy their assignments while watching film. Our guys take individual notes. At the end of the week we know if they studied their notes for their specific assignments because each player has to take a test on their individual assignments, if your back up scores better than you, you lost your starting spot for the game. We prepare. We do not motivate. My career speaks for itself. In my years coaching, I've never been a part of a losing team. My offense has always been one of the top in the state every year. Our D has usually been just as good, this year we have four underclass end starting on D and even if they are prepared, they struggle with their play.
Please, don't try to tell me how to coach. My success speaks for itself. I believe the only motivation a player needs comes from their own success on the field, their schoolmates and fans.

But when my entire team plays lackluster like they did thus last week if wasn't from lack of preparation. Everyone of them underachieved and never met a goal. They played flat and hung their heads. That's when I tell them that this loss comes from lack of effort and desire. I coach to prepare, and NO coach can coach effort or desire. We call the plays that we've set up to give our team a win. But if they are not being executed by the players, where does the fault land?

Ok fellas, Like kansascowboy I am looking at this loss through a coach's eyes. first off because I have a son on the team I have a few insights that I can share with you. DC is a script caller. What I mean by that is he goes into a game with a play script that he does not deviate from. Now as a coach I have a hard time with that because you cannot predict down and distance so some of the plays may not seem like a good fit for the down and distance. For example 3rd and long and they run inside zone....well it is because it is they next play on the script card. Secondly I truly believe that in order to get the most out of Brett Smith you need to let him throw the ball, he is a playmaker and a gunslinger. With a corps of receivers like you have every game should be pass heavy. finally I agree with a few of you on this board in that we need to recruit some defensive players, particularly defensive line men that are big enough an dstrong enough to get off of blocks and make the plays at he LOS. Like I said before, if your LBers and DBs are leading your team in tackles there is something wrong! Now I have to say that the main reason that he is a script caller is so that they can play fast. There is no time to analyze if you are trying to run your offense at the tempo that DC is.

So do I think we are done for this year? NO! although our toughest part of the schedule lies ahead. We need two mor wins I believe to be bowl eligible....San Jose and perhaps Hawaii????????? Anything else is gravy! Just my two cents for what it is worth.

I don't mean this as an attack on you, but 6-6 at best, yay!!!! I believe San Jose rolls and HI could potentially pass all over us. Not too optimistic myself but 15-20 years of this shit will do that to you.

insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over while hoping for a different result. DC appears to be inflexible and unable to fire his players up or properly hold them accountable for poor play. This pretty much disqualifies him as a head coach.

As far as tempo goes- CSU was getting lined up and snaps off quicker than us yesterday...

Hawaii maybe, but SJSU will be very tough. They beat the Rams team that just destroyed Wyoming in Ft. Collins. Wyoming is historically bad in California too.

I think it depends on what team shows up, If that team from yesterday sticks around Hawaii could be it. If the Air Force or Nebraska team shows up, we compete with Fresno and Boise
