Who’s the QB playing well at Tarleton State this year? Perhaps the program is better coached? I bet the Tarleton State AD is not making almost $600,000 per year fielding perennial losers.

If one or more people are not fired after last night, we aren’t serious about winning regardless of what the General has to say. It is that simple. If Sawvel and Burman remain in their current position, UW has made its statement.

I agree with you but I don’t think any major changes will happen until after the season ends.

Yep, we already know that Burman never fires anyone mid-season. He always wait till the end of the season putting us behind all the other teams that fire coaches in finding a new one. And I would assume the general would start by getting rid of Burman, but like others have said with him having his contract up at the end of this school year, I expect it will be announced he is " retiring" not being fired. So I don't think we see anything till the end of the season as well
In my opinion, this is the first real test for how serious President Reeves is about rehabilitating the athletics department.
If we wait to get rid of Burman until the end of his contract, we are stuck with Sawvel for another year. If he is truly serious about turning around athletics, that is just unacceptable in my opinion.
Yes, it is going to take money to buy out Burman’s final year and Sawvel’s last two years. I don’t care. Get it done. If it is truly financially unrealistic, then it’s time to admit we no longer have the finances to compete at this level.

Letting Burman retire vs. firing him misses the opportunity to make a statement. THAT is what is needed. I don’t care if they fire him with a day left on his contract, make the statement.
The starting point to turning around the football program has to be getting rid of Burman. Wyoming simply cannot get rid of Sawvel without first kicking Burman to the curb.

Unfortunately, one thing I will say is that yea, Burman might be in a bind with that. He can't even convince the legislature to adequately and normally fund athletics (keep in mind this is a legislature that continues to gut academics even, let alone athletics funding...and continues to threaten more). Coming up with the cash to buyout Sawvel and attract a decent replacement (and give them a decent assistant pool) may simply not be something he can do. There is NO stomach for public funds right now.
I don't want to get political here, but elections have consequences and you get what you vote for. Hopefully the apparent demise of certain political factions this go around eases that pain, but yea.
The CJC is gonna have to do the heavy lifting here. But it's hard to convince people (including me) to give that money when we don't believe Burman will pull the trigger in the first place.
And then yea, as I mentioned Burman himself is a long-entrenched local and member of the good ol' boys club...and he's well-liked on both a personal and professional level. And for some reason he's respected by his peers across the leagues we compete in. There's no way they're not going to let him save face and retire....unless he's really, really greedy and is pushing for another contract. Even if the General is super motivated and willing to take swings....does the board find a way to overrule him? I guarantee there's something buried in the bylaws that lets them save Burman's reputation and lets him hold on until retirement.
This whole thing is fucked. Years and years of complacency, bad leadership, bad politics, an apathetic/casual/ignorant fanbase, and a lack of vision have put us in a monstrous bind and stuck us with a bad situation and no clear way out.

I question if some deeper pocket donors haven’t already slowed the cash flow.
I also doubt that Sawful will be gone sooner than sometime in 2028 regardless of the new president since he is locked in 2 more years after 2026 at $1.5 million per year. Maybe he will be let go as early as the end of 2027 if 2026 and 2027 fail to produce the 6 win worship the coach level.
My fear is the program is on a path to hemorrhage into the abyss for years to come reminiscent of Vic followed by little flickers of success like the Glenn and Christensen eras with any new hires unless there is a mindset change within the entire Wyoming system.
There have been some familiar Cheyenne names disappear from the CJC. I don’t think they passed away but I wonder what happened as they no longer are listed as involved or donors (they weren’t just Century Club).
