So I haven't had a chance to watch the team yet. For those of you who have, what are the biggest differences you see from a Shyatt-lead team and this team?
Honestly not much, imo. We'll occasionally shoot it earlier in the shot clock and run out in transition a little bit more. Offense looks identical. Just piss it out on the perimeter and jack threes all game. Kinda disappointing
The only thing I have really noticed is at times they seem to play without reigns. I think Edwards lets them get out and be athletic a little more. I don't know how else to explain it. They just seem to be a little more free with decisions instead of being restricted to certain cuts/looks or nothing.

They also play pretty sound D (as much as our physical limitations allow) and swarm nicely. Should be a fun team to watch.
Defense looks good, yes. Rebounding is still a bit of a problem

Maybe not having anything to do with Shyatt, but without Josh Adams, the team, while looking solid, just doesn't have the excitement (for lack of a better term) than last year's. Adam's presence clearly was a leadership role that no one seems to have yet assumed, but James clearly could be that person.

I haven't seen enough yet to determine, for myself, if its a philosophy issue (more of the same) or if it is a personnel issue. I tend to lean towards its more of a philosophy issue... Old habits die hard. When Naughton has been on the floor, he's been pretty aggressive and has looked good on both the Offensive and Defensive glass.

I think the vacuum left by Adams is causing a number of surprise "growths". I figured JMac would fill that void. And while he has played great so far I don't think he is the leader of this team on the court. Off of it, not doubt. He s the man. SO far on the court Justin James has stepped up huge. TO me, he is a year ahead of schedule. I didnt expect him to shoulder the load until his junior year. What he's done so far has really impressed me. Aka Gorski has also greatly impressed me. Definitely not an athletic freak, he is playing smart, he is playing within his skill set, and he is confident. He looks really good so far.

I have been thinking the same thing from Aka. I know there has been quite a bit of discussion about him on this board but in my opinion he has played great and deserves the minutes he is getting. Even though he isn't an athletic freak he has good size and length. I've been impressed with his defense, he always seems to be in the right position. Plays very smart.

I get why you'd say that, but I've actually enjoyed watching this team more than last year's so far. Everyone's not just waiting for Josh to make a play. Everyone's more involved. Makes us harder to defend too.
