Can we chill a bit?

What is it about a loss that causes us to turn on everybody. I see this on the football side as well. It goes something like this:

1. Pokes take a tough loss.

2. Fan expresses disappointment.

3. Other fans excoriate and insult disappointed fan for the temerity of having been let down (for the billionth time if you are a cowboys fan).

Or:

1. Pokes take a tough loss.

2. Fan expresses hope/optimism.

3. Other fans excoriate and insult hopeful/optimistic fan for the temerity of trying to see the bright side of a disappointing loss while enjoying cowboy athletics (for the billionth time if you are a cowboys fan).

Can we have a moratorium on the attacks and keep the disagreements civil? I think I've been both of those fans and have probably inappropriately piled on the fans I disagreed with. I can disagree with you and feel disappointment or optimism that you don't share with me but at the end of the day we are all here because we are, perhaps, un-healthily attached to the outcomes of a mid to lower tier college athletics program.

Good point, we all really love the Pokes or we’d not read these ridiculous posts. Bottom line this team has far exceeded most of our expectations. They desire to finish strong. The fact is we are a couple bench players contributing 2-3 possessions in these last several games to snatch the W.

Keep up the grittiness Pokes, you may still get that NCAA berth. I still like our chances.

Not really sure who has disagreed with anyone. Unless you are talking about myself and the new guy were talking about travel. I never insulted him and he never insulted me. We were just disagreeing on other teams travel situations.

I don’t have any problems with him. Just a discussion. I haven’t seen anyone else get attacked I don’t think.

You make good points though.

It's not totally the discussion/reaction to the latest game...it's more the knee-jerk "go f#@k yourself" comments to various hot takes. Disagree all you want but I would like to see some content with the disagreement or a clarifying question. The amount of ad-hominem and strawman practitioners on message boards is always high .. I understand that ... I just don't like it...I do love spirited well-intentioned debate though. To be fair, I could stand to get thicker skin.

I never said I disagreed with you, so not sure why you said that, but ok. Lol

I’m in agreement Seattle, I have thick skin. It’ll take a lot more than a differing view on this forum, to upset my railcar. I have no “beef” with you. It’s all good.

Again...even if you did disagree...that is fine. I specifically posted about how I was disappointed with how the season has gone since we got ranked...and I got told to "go F$%k myself". That is what precipitated this post.

Okay. I didn’t see that, so my bad. Everyone is definitely entitled to their opinions with out people having to get so upset they need to go postal on the forum.

Here's a scenario I see more often:

1. Pokes take a tough loss.

2. Fan excoriates a player, coach, administrator, poster, or official for lacking heart, being an idiot, not trying hard enough, having unmarried parents, or other flaws of character.

3. Posters take sides and name calling ensues. Somewhere in a thread there's a little bit of discussion and I learn something interesting or get a different perspective.

There are some quality discussions and debates on Cowboy sports here. Enough that I keep coming back. I would enjoy it more if I learned to ignore the rock throwing stuff.

Just blame BYU for our problems. It streamlines things quicker.

Also not good. Like you...I enjoy the real debate/discussion.

I've learned that no matter what, social media and message boards are fuels for passionate fans and that's what they were designed for. It's just too bad people's words get twisted and taken outta context far too often. Then people take offense and some feel threatened and think they hafta take action(s). It's too bad but it's the unfortunate world we live in....bottom line should always be did we win or lose and why or why not...that's what has been misconstrued over the years.
