BYU and LDS question plus other deep thoughts.

Just a quick intro, I dont attend UW yet, but am planning on enrolling for the Jan 2011 term(Just applied 2 weeks ago). I am from Florida and grew up a huge Gator fan, Gator everything, a Gator painted on my wall when I was little. After a part time year in a Community College I decided to sign up for 5 years in the Marine Corps, have been stationed in Yuma, AZ since 2006. If accepted into UW the Gators will automatically go on the backburner. It will be hard after literally watching every single game over the past 14 years (minus the few I missed on a deployment). I simply believe once you attend a University than that University has to be #1 in your heart.

Keepin' it classy. Thanks for being the stereotypical minority of the UW fan base.

for real, im not a Mormon but have worked and interacted with a few. Seem like fine people to me. Every religion has those 10% of fanatics and whatnot. Almost nothing in life is exempt from that 10%.

Welcome!

Not gonna lie, I'm kind of a Gator fan as well. I enjoyed the Danny Wuerffel years and watching Steve Spurrier on the sidelines. I've always wanted to hit a game at the Swamp.. seems like a great place to watch a college football game. Glad to hear you're coming out west, you'll enjoy Cowboy football, just like the rest of us diehards on here. :)

Me too. I cried in the 96 Fiesta Bowl when Quezzie Green dislocated his hip and Tommie Frasier and the Cornhuskers beat us 62-24. I was one sad 9 year old.

I am deciding if I want to attempt to walk-on but thats another story. I know what walk-ons endure, but I think it would it be totally worth it just to practice and play football. Regardless if I ever played a snap in an actual game.

I don't believe in that "rule." I attended East Central University in southeast Oklahoma from 1992 to 1997 and I don't give a rat's A$$ about ECU, period! :tickedoff:

I was born a Wyoming Cowboy, bred a Wyoming Cowboy, and I'll die a Wyoming Cowboy!

I should of clarified, if you attended a D-1A University, then they should be your #1 team in D-1 Athletics. IMO of course, I tend to think my opinion is always right. Others dont agree though, lol

I completely understand your line of thinking though.

I think being born and raised in Wyoming is a little different because the university unifies and represents the whole state. Other universities have some competition in their state and the state where you are born has less to do with your university affiliation. UW is Wyoming! The teams represent the state! No where else can claim that unity within the state. There is always that State vs U of.

Have to give credit where credit is due. This was forwarded to me by my dad, thought I would post in this topic......

It is said that some people take their football and the fighting
for their alma mater way too serious in the "big" picture of life,
a game should be a game, with good sports, no hard feelings and
being an adult.

Just prior to the start of the Air Force-BYU football game,
Sept. 22, 2009, this video was broadcast in the BYU stadium in
Provo, Utah. Later, the USAF Academy Superintendent, Lt Gen Gould,
showed this clip to the faculty and staff. He told everyone that
BYU ran it minutes before the kickoff at the game. He was clearly
moved by it, as were those who watched it. BYU is a class act.

Well, it is kind of hard to hate on Air Force (unless you are Navy or Army). Though I think BYU hate is generally reserved for the Yewts, and their arrogance for the rest of us not from AFA.

If you've been a marine, I'm sure you can handle whatever life throws at you. I say go for it. You do miss 100% of the shots you never take, right?

Agree, it is hard to hate on AFA, but I thought it was classy non the less. At least they show respect for SOMEBODY.

I will never respect what BYU stands for. I will never respect anybody who adheres to BYU's beliefs. Simple as that. I don't care how nice they are. I don't care how much volunteer work they do. I don't care how classy they are.

That is a great way to look at it
