In the short term it's my opinion that this boondoggle of an administrative conundrum (I'm trying to be nice) will benefit and embolden the status of our AD, Tom Burman.
I also could be completely wrong - however - for the time being, I feel that with the Sternberg commissioned report now in his hands totally and exclusively, Burman will now have singular autonomy and discretion that he would not have had if Sternberg had stayed on board.
My theory is that Burman will want to show that he is not tone deaf to the situation (the rancor, the disgust, the disease that continues to fester in regard to the football program), and this will allow him to make moves in the athletic department that will affect other personnel - but not him...at least not in the short term.
Provided the Pokes get blown out tomorrow and lose big at Utah State (I'm not even conceding they''ll win against Hawaii) I think that Burman will pink slip Dave Christensen at the end of the season and bring aboard another coach.
On the other hand I think this situation would be totally different if Sternberg had stayed on in Laramie.
Burman would not have had the complete autonomy he now possesses -- and advocating for a regime change in the coaching staff would have forced him to justify to Sternberg why he should be able to make such a move while sparing his own position.
Bottom line is that this ugly scenario has worked to the favor of Burman in my opinion - and if he wishes to pull the trigger on firing Christensen, while also maintaining his own position...he now has that opportunity.
