Broncos vs Pokes

Sunday games are shit. Just a few short years ago, they were unheard of at UW. Now they seem to be embraced. Too bad.

Wyoming high school basketball just started this weekend. That could be one reason why UW is trying to avoid Saturday games as they know there are a lot of people in the state that will be traveling/watching high school ball on Saturdays, but will typically not be on Sunday. Honestly, I can't blame that logic, they should be more worried about people in the state being busy with Wyoming high school games on a Saturday than they are worried about some NFL team from another state on a Sunday.
Wait, Wyoming HS plays their games on Saturdays? Interesting...

Typically they will play Friday and Saturday with the occasional Tuesday game thrown in. In 4A, the highest level, 2 teams are paired as traveling partners, Team A will play @ Team C on Friday, then at Team D on Saturday. Meanwhile, Team B @ Team D Fri, @ Team C Sat.

Gotcha.

That's actually how my Div II alma mater's conference schedules things, but this is the first I've seen of it on the high school level.

Though in MN there's really no consistency in how they schedule HS games. The only thing certain is no games on Wednesday night (church night). That's a statewide thing, too.

The Pokes are a religion. My religion anyway. If people are staying away from the UW games for church or for pro football that's their problem and their excuse. I don't understand how either takes priority but that's just me. I live here and will not miss a game for anything outside of nuclear annihilation. Been doing it for many years and we finally have a product that's producing quality entertainment and people are still making excuses. Exhausting. :tickedoff:

This is kind of frustrating.

Just because you might not consider skipping a Wyo hoops game to watch the Broncos on TV during a playoff race, doesn't mean that no one else will. And actually, most people in Laramie are choosing the Broncos over the Pokes on a sunday. So here's the solution...instead of saying "We only want people who put Wyo hoops above all else" how about they just don't try to compete with the Denver Broncos?

Then they are competing with high school sports which, IMO, could have just as many people conflicted as Bronco games.

The UW game was mostly over by the time the Donks began. I missed most of the first quarter. Best of both worlds.
Maybe UW shouldn't compete with hunters, the chuchgoers, the Broncos, the local high school, the pancake breakfast, the horse drawn wagon rides, blah, blah, blah. But they do. Just like every other NCAA school. It's all about priorities.

You are always going to be competing with someone or something. I think you pick the best date and time that will give you the best chance for highest attendance, and also provide for a good game day experience. Those two may go hand in hand. I also think consistency would be good too. I love the regular schedule of conference games where you generally know when a game will be years in advance. I know in 2015, 2016, etc. I should keep my Saturdays and Wednesdays open from Jan-March, and once in a while a Tuesday. I use that to plan my schedule. a similar consistency in the non-conference portion of the schedule would be nice.
