Bring on the fly boys. I can't stand AFA lately.

Gagliardi wrote a good piece on the rivalry with AFA.

http://www.wyosports.net/university_of_wyoming/football/wyoming-vs-air-force-has-turned-into-heated-rivalry/article_92af4b2c-89ed-11e6-b4a5-4b1535c61dbf.html

I have heard the urine bomb thing as well and I call BS. My acquaintance said he got one thrown at him back in the 90s. I don't buy it.

I can't see this happening. There are cameras and such EVERYWHERE nowadays. Had this happened recently, it would no doubt have been leaked (see what I did there) and grounds for NCAA and MWC discipline. Cry me a frickin river.

AFA conveniently had a camera in DC's face for Howdy Doody gate, where are they now? Film the urine bomb, then I will believe you.

I saw someone piss off the edge of the stadium and onto the BYU football team back in the 80's. It wasn't a balloon. It was straight from the tap.

That might be where all of that started.

The balloon thing is most likely b.s. You would have to piss into a container and use some tool to pressurize the flow of piss to fill up the balloon. That just doesn't seem realistic.

I heard it from a Utah fan who said he had been at a half-dozen Wyoming games and had all great experiences until he got hit by a piss balloon like 10 or so years ago.

I've been to a lot of Wyoming games and have never seen anything like that... not sure why so many different people talk about it and claim to have experienced it. Like, how do you even throw one in a crowd without hitting Wyoming fans? How are there no police reports about it ever?

We must find this piss balloon lex Luther and put an end to his decades long harassment!

Can you imagine him at home, filling milk milk jug after milk jug and then syringing it into balloons? Then putting them in some sort of piss resistant container. You wouldn't want one to rupture during the game!

Air Force fan here hoping for a good game with no injuries. A great win by your team on Saturday and if we can't agree on much we can agree on "beating CSU is a good thing".

I have several points to discuss reference comments above. Check out our board and you will find No one (as fans) taking this game lightly or a done deal. Yes, we have fans who totally believe in our team that think we can win by double digits especially following our handling of Navy's rushing attack. But those same posters realize the danger of playing your team especially on your home field. Just because one or two fans feel their team they love will beat your team does NOT mean fans as a whole are disrespecting you, quite the contrary.

Reference the obvious distain by some here for our team there are feelings that promote that from your fan base as well. Last time in Laramie friends of mine had the urine filled ballon thrown at them (by a drunk who missed) inside the stadium as an example, and ripping an American flag from one of our fans hands. Doesn't say much about building mutual respect. I have not seen something happen like that at Falcon Stadium. Reference the situation with Christianson and Calhoun any of you that are football fans know he was off base. AF still had two timeouts left when that happened so they were not 'faking' to stop the clock. The fact that fans 'bitc$ed and moaned' about the hurt player coming right back into the game? That happens all the time when someone takes a knee, comes out, evaluated and then back in. Christianson was just upset he blew a lead and a possible win. Those here that complain about the illegal chop block vs legal cut blocks do not understand the difference between the two or recognize all teams, to include Wyoming, use the legal cut block. AF has only been penalized once this year for an illegal block while our opponents have also been penalized once in that same four game stretch, it is not something we do intentionally as some here would insinuate.

Bottom line is that two teams are going to do their best to play hard nose football this weekend going for a win. It should be a good game and an interesting chess match between the teams and coaches. We have both a running and passing attack this year with more balance than in years past. Our challenge will be to stop your explosive back while not giving up the big pass play. Can't wait and GO FALCONS

As someone that works in the field of Sports Medicine, I have several comments regarding the Howdy Doody incident. First, I was at the game in question, and saw, with my own eyes, the AFA player jogging off the field until he was instructed to drop to the ground by the coaching staff. He was attended to and then limped off the field...sorry, but your assertion that this was normal is completely false.

Furthermore, Calhoun and company have a horrible track record with playing injured players as it is. I can think of a few instances, but the first that comes to mind was several years ago Wyoming @ AFA. On an AF kickoff return, the Falcon return man got blasted and was CLEARLY unconscious. It is pretty much universally accepted that ANY loss of consciousness equals concussion which means that that player is done for the day, no matter what. But lo and behold, the player returned the very next series and played throughout the game. This is horrible player management and IMO even worse than faking an injury.

Never done it, haven't seen it done, but thinking about it briefly, you can get a diluted urine balloon without too much trouble. I am not saying it has been done. That is all I am going to say on that matter, and I am moving on.

I have a good feeling about this game. Wyo's O-Line faces a tough task, and them giving Allen time and Hill/Wick lanes will be key. On defense, the secondary can't be caught sleeping this Air Force team can actually pass. This is a winnable game, Go Pokes, get er done!

Also I seem to remember Calhoun jawing at some of our players over the years on the field. Not sure if this is my memory playing tricks on me. Anyone else remember this?

He always has the shi eating smile, especially during controversy of sorts. At the USU game he had a perma-smirk. Just want to slap it off. AF Safety, Steelhammer had an obvious and dangerous targeting headshot and Calhoun had the perma-smirk. Two plays I saw with my own eyes saw AFA O-linemen doing what looked like a gator rolls with the legs of opposing players.

I didn't realize that urban legend is now taught as history at the Academy...interesting. I could see putting in the effort to create a pee balloon for BYU...but AFA? Nope. Unless it was for Calhoun himself...then maybe.

In terms of Howdy Doody gate, my view is that DC was and is a classless turd who lost his cool after blowing a huge lead. His work to deceive Jason Thompson into transferring to Utah was certainly harmful to Wyoming, but more hurtful to a young man that was impressionable and vulnerable. I have no problem with accepting that DC is a jerk and acted like a baby after that fateful AFA game. The real question is whether AFA will also own the reality that Calhoun is a thin-skinned jerk that skates because of his position as HC at a service academy. I won't even take on the issue of cut v. chop blocks, as the opinions are all over the place when it comes to how AFA blocks in relation to the rules. My bigger issue with Calhoun is his holier than thou attitude about integrity and honoring the military when his behavior and personality do more damage than, say, the Wyoming band playing Cowboy Joe unknowingly (which they should have known better) during the Third Verse. While the fake injury didn't have an effect on the game, especially given AFA's timeout allotment, that almost makes it worse. Even though Calhoun could have easily played by the book and still won, he resorted to deception and faking an injury to get further advantage...even when he didn't have to do so. And don't suggest he didn't tell his player to go to the ground - it was too obvious. But beyond UW's view of old Troy, which you might dismiss because of Howdy Doody gate, just peer around at other teams' perceptions of him. Very few, if any, of the other fanbases in the league respect him. They know he's a jackwagon too.

Calhoun has never given me warm fuzzies. He's got a villain/serial killer aura about him.

Yeah, his personality is smug, arrogant, fake.....He just comes across as a closet douche. You expect him to start talking shit as soon as he knows there's no one around to hear him.

Fisher was coaching the cut/chop block as well. He practically invented the technique. The reason people didn't hate him, he seemed honest. He could spin up a southern tale with his country accent and make you forget about the fact that his team was likely to injure someones ACL during the game.

DC was a prick. There's no doubt about that. It was a national embarrassment the way he melted down after the AFA loss, screaming fuck you on camera while wearing uniforms that read, "Integrity" "Honor".....

He was right about Calhoun though. The guy is a snake oil salesman and has all the personality of a career politician. He reminds me of many of the officers I experienced in the service. He always says the right thing in public, but you know he'll cut your throat in private, as long as there aren't any witnesses.

Honestly, Wyoming almost needed this rivalry to turn nasty. After BYU and Utah left, we we're left with a void in our schedule for douchebags.

AFA has filled that void nicely.

I was at that game that night and if I noticed it live, there had to be something there, in what seemed like it was faking an injury, so don't say that kinda stuff happens all the time. Calhoun knew what he was doing and deserved everything DC gave him that night, sorry you don't like it, as for the balloon, in all my years I've never heard that story and I've been to lots of conference games and woulda heard about that story b4 today's reading of it. Agreed, we all respect the flag as well, and if I saw a UW fan rip an American Flag outta their hands I'd be standing up for the flag not the team!!!! Try again!!!! And GO POKES we need this one more than they do!!!!! Mr Howdy Doody will be here until his tenure is out, sorry that's the way it is

Dude....wtf?

I have been going to Wyoming games for decades now and have sat in every section of the stadium during all of the biggest rivalry games and have never, and I mean NEVER EFFING EVER, seen a "urine filled balloon" anywhere in the stands.....nor has any Wyoming fan I've discussed the concept with...........in fact, I can't even fathom the logistics of getting urine into a balloon..........do you know how much pressure needs to be built to begin inflating a balloon? It is such a ridiculous effing urban legend (that I imagine began with the BYU fans, I have no evidence......it just seems like something they would say)

He's completely full of shit. Pretty much a requirement for prima donna AF officers, esp pilots (and coaches).

Couple things... I was extremely embarrassed by the actions of our coach that night. But DC did a lot of stupid things and I am glad he is gone. He was never representative of our proud team and institution. However, You are absolutely wrong about the timeouts. AF had NO timeouts left. NONE. ZERO. And that little pussy laid down after Calhoun pointed to the ground. He looked at the sidelines and then hit the turf. Don't play us for fools...it was very obvious. It happened...it's over...and now the two teams have the chance to square off in the WAR.

Secondly...I have amazing respect for our military...the Air Force included....I am really thankful that I have been able to separate our Air Force, and it's pathetic football team. I hate the way they approach the game with their techniques and their baby faces they put on every time they get called (which doesn't happen near enough!!! 1 time this year so far!?!? that is frightening!! Because we all know it happens multiple times a game). I am just hoping that our guys come out healthy on the other end of this game. And with a W of course.

I hate this team as much as CSU and whatever hypocritical response you can come up with makes no difference. You are a fan of AF. You have to live with that.

ps....your little comment about the Urine Bomb completely took away all credit you had coming onto this board. You suck and so does your stupid cheating team (well...actually your team is really good. 4-0, but you know what i mean). Suck it.

Getting involved in this thread...I feel like a kid about to touch a hot stove. I know what is going to happen, but I just. can't. help. myself. Yes, I am an Air Force fan...

First off, congrats to you guys for landing Craig Bohl a couple years back. I believe he is a phenomenal coach and that if he stays at Wyoming for 5 years or more, very good things can and probably will happen for your program. You are also off to a decent start this year and I think you will be a bowl team.

About the game: War Memorial Stadium is a surprisingly tough environment. I have attended several games there and something about the place always affects the Falcons. Altitude, cold, intensity of the rivalry, who knows what the reason is, but it does the job. The Falcons are good this year, but not astronomically so as some pundits and especially fans might try to sell you on. The difference is that this team has more depth than any Falcon team in the last 10 years, which still isn't saying A LOT for the Air Force Academy, but it is something. The run game is OK, but not quite as good as what we expected. Your LBs and DBs are experienced, so there could be some potential for the Pokes to have an advantage, but unfortunately I don't think the Wyoming defensive line is going to be able to stop the FB dive and QB options. There will be a pitch man and a motion man a lot, but oftentimes it is really a double option play inside, not a true triple option. Inside will be the FB tandem of Shayne Davern and D.J. Johnson running behind two starting guards from last year and pretty good center. James Rast is also coming into his own at RT. I expect the dive play is going to be the achilles heal of the Wyoming defense. The best thing you could do is give a double A-gap look from your LBs, much like the Viking's defense, trying to force some checks or stuff the inside run early, then gradually adjust as the game goes on. It is going to be a chess match inside ALL. DAY. LONG. This sounds super-boring but I think it will be the most interesting part of the game. You all know what the Falcons can do to you on the outside and over the top if the defense cheats up. Nothing new there. Offensively the Wyoming balanced attack can and does pose difficulty for us, but only if you can get it working early. You don't need to score points, just keep Josh Allen upright and give him time, even if its just to throw it away. We are going to blitz A LOT, and will play the run very well early. Air Force has 12 sacks in 4 games and has allowed 53 rush yds/gm with an average of 1.8 ypc. The best way to defeat this is to pass effectively early, and to use designed QB runs if your guy is quick. See Denard Robinson. See Chucky Keaton. If I'm coaching the Pokes, I will script my first couple of drives around high percentage short passes, QB runs, screens, and slowly start to mix in the talented RB, Brian Hill. You cannot start out running the ball, but must use the pass to open up the run game. I would also take a couple shots early to keep our safety deep, but they must be carefully rehearsed and not turn into interceptions. The Air Force offense will start slow, and the best plan of attack for you Pokes is to protect the rock in your own house and slowly chip away at our defense until you find a mis-match. If you come out with the read-option with four wide you're asking for trouble. Line up in a pro-set with two wide-outs, a TE, a RB, and a FB/TE/RB, then see above for what type of plays to run. Just keep Allen upright and not turning the ball over and by possession two or three good things should start to happen. If your coach tries to jump out to an early lead by playing aggressive offense it will backfire, I can almost guarantee it.

Anyway, here's to a good, injury-free game for both sides, and hopefully a bit of class from both sidelines! (I have some comments on that topic but I'd rather talk X's and O's for now!)

Regards,
Ransom

Forgot about Daven. He's a big mofo. He's the one who broke the game open last year. We must contain him.
