breaking news

Goal #1 is to win the MWC title: This will be quite the uphill battle. I think our lack of depth has caught up with us and winning the MWC title outright will be tough to do. I am thinking that is why Shyatt is clearing the bench with kids playing right now, getting badly needed experience for these guys to add depth for this home stretch.

Goal #2 is to win the MWC tourney: Months ago I said we would need to win the tourney to get in the big tourney. Becoming more and more apparent to be the case. Any team could beat us in the MWC tourney.

Leibermann is young, but he has a pretty nice stroke. Looking forward to what he can do.

That said, I think we are forgetting the presence that Nance has on defense, no one to stop SDSU inside. And without Nance we have zero inside presence. Cooke relies on Nance. Our shooters rely on Nance. The five guard lineup we tried vs Air Force will be even worse vs SDSU. They are lengthy and athletic dudes.

I will be watching and cheering on the Pokes, and am trying to be optimistic, but I don't see any way how we win this game tonight. Even a perfect storm of us shooting lights out and SDSU shooting poorly...this is a huge obstacle tonight.

Do we win or lose tonight, I'm thinking we'll look better but SDSU gets this one but it's hardly fought
SDSU 60 UW 55, sure hope i'm wrong, big time, kinda feel the same way i did when we were facing CSU a week ago, and i know we had Larry but still the feeling I had, prove me wrong, please!!!!

My heart says the Pokes play well and shoot well and keep it close. My brain says we lose by 15.

Talk about roller coaster. Rolled by USU, roll CSU, rolled by AFA. WTH?

gotta love conference season, and it's not just us either, Feb. 11 going into game number 25 in a tie for 1st place, can't be all bad, eh...lol

If we let SDSU score 60, I think we're in trouble.

Our best chance tonight is to limit the number of possessions, shoot lights out, hope SDSU misses a lot of first shots, and keep them off of the offensive boards.

Not too much to ask, right?

Honestly, I don't know if we necessarily need to shoot "lights out" as long as we limit possessions and 2nd chance opportunities. If we rebound well, we're going to have a real shot to win the game. Rebounding is going to be tough, and we're going to need a lot of help from our guards in that respect because I'm worried about how many minutes Herndon will be able to play.

I don't think we need to "hope" that they miss a lot of first shots. They typically do. In fact, they shoot worse at home than they do on the road. If we can hold our own on the boards, we're going to have a shot to win tonight - even without Nance. The hill is certainly steeper without our best rebounder/interior scorer, but even with Nance, we'll need to hit a few 3's to keep it within striking distance anyway.

AF almost won at SDSU this year. So did UNLV and UNM. Nevada about beat SDSU last week. I just listed a whole myriad of teams with different styles and personnel. Also, all of those teams are in the bottom half of the conference. SDSU is not invincible, even at home. In fact, SDSU has yet to play a home game against anyone in the top half of the conference, yet they almost lost at home to 3 teams in the bottom half. With an adequate gameplan and pretty decent execution, we're gonna be in the mix tonight.

All the teams you listed are capable of putting up 80 points, When is the last time we did that without Nance? Hell we don't do that with Nance. It's not about SDSU being invincible it's about us being apathetic on the floor. Against USU it looked like no one cared and against Air Force it looked like they gave up early in the second half.

If the team doesn't go in believing they can and will win and shooting and playing like it matters they have no chance.

agreed our 2 worst losses this year were USU and AF the 1st time I've ever seen our team quit so to speak, that's what has me scared somewhat, if things aren't going as well as they are used to they kinda give up their efforts, I hope that's not the case tonight

Herndon reminds me a lot of Nance when he was a freshman. He's going to be a star for us. Maybe this is the game where he breaks out!

I think Barnes has more potential to be like Nance. I think it'll be much easier for him to develop some post moves and a short jumper than for Herndon to bulk up into a dominant big man. But I think we can all agree that they'll be studs in the coming years.

They're going to be different, but complimentary, players. Herndon's destiny is as a stretch four who can shoot and face up/put it on the floor. Barnes is going to spend more time on the low block. Neither will likely be a special as Nance because Larry is pretty damned good in both of those roles. But it will be fun to watch them together as I think they're perfectly matched for a starting frontcourt.

adding a response not to double up:

KFBC Sportzone reported, Larry's still running a fever of 101, and from the looks of it, he'll probably not return until the Fresno St game on Feb. 25, sorry just saying what I've heard, meaning he'll miss 2 more games after SDSU, home vs SJSU and at Nevada

Wow, this is terrible news. Our basketball karma is terrible right now. We are due for some serious GOOD luck. You owe us, Basketball gods!

Wow... that's a lot of time to miss...

FUCK

Thank goodness SJSU and Nevada (even on the road) are both VERY winnable games.

Winnable yes just like every game on the schedule was, Likely we win? I'd say we have a 30-40% chance to beat those teams outside of Laramie and suspect we will be underdogs in every game by a 3-6 point margin until Nance is back.

I'm being realistic when I say the only game I have confidence in us actually winning until Nance is back is the SJSU game in Laramie.

I will never question the heart or desire of this team. I think it is full of high-character individuals, who give their best effort every night.

I think the last two weeks, especially the USU & Nevada game, we were seeing the early signs of the Mono takings its toll on both Nance and Herndon.

The win at home vs. CSU was pure adrenaline.

I don't think this team has any quit in them, but an illness like mono would kick anyone's ass.

Will a fully healthy team, we're still the best team in the conference... just hope we're healthy by March!
