It is particularly interesting because there is a track record for FCS coaches making the jump to FBS and being highly successful. The most well know example is probably Jim Tressel who won a national championship in his second year with Ohio State after being at Youngstown State. Brian Kelly came from a D2 school to Central Michigan and lead them to the MAC Championship in his third year before moving onto Cincinnati and later Notre Dame and LSU. Jim Harbaugh turned Stanford into a national powerhouse within three years of coming there from FCS school San Diego. Willie Fritz, the head coach at Tulane, came to them from FCS school Georgia Southern. Fritz didn't have immediate success at Tulane but last year he lead them to a 12-2 record, a Cotton bowl win, and a #9 national ranking.
So FCS coaches can certainly be successful at the FBS level.
