I heard from a reliable source in the athletic department earlier today that Bob Knight was offered a MILLION dollar deal to come coach the men's bball team.

I was actually waiting for his name to pop up in this whole fiasco that is this Wyoming basketball coaching search. I would be shocked if Bob Knight becomes the next Cowboy basketball coach. He's 70 years old and I'm not sure how long he'd be able to last as a coach anymore.
I can think of several positive things that could come from him, but I could also think of just as many negatives.

LOL All I can do is laugh about this post. IS this a joke? This isn't ever happening. Bob Knight is 70 years old for one and I am not sure where we came up with this extra money to pay Bob Knight that we never had before. I guess he could have been offered but I doubt he would accept. I doubt he was offered though.

I actually have always liked Bob Knight and thought he was a great coach but I think his time has passed.

Just my opinion.

Some new developments, my source said this in passing today and I have since questioned some more when we both had time. The source says that Athletics is willing to pay up to a million dollars for a new coach. The reason why they are looking at Bob Knight is because he owns a ranch in Wyoming.

Wyoming has already said the new coach will get a 500k signing bonus so we know the new coach will probably get close to a million the 1st year but after that it drops down to I imagine anywhere from 500k to 600k. Still at the age of 70 I do not see this as a good idea. Just my opinion.

I can confirm this source. She does work in the athletic department. So obviously his name has come up within the department. How much they have pursued it? I doubt much but they could possibly be getting his input on the new coach as well. Knight does spend a lot of time in Wyo hunting and fishing.

screw age it would be an unbelievable hire

I think Knight is a great coach. My only thing about the age is that when he resigned from Texas Tech and his son took over he said after all the years of coaching he was worn out and tired. So now at age 70 is he really going to want to take a program in a mess and try to rebuild it if he is already worn out? Just my thoughts on it. I don't really see it as realistic but it is fun to speculate and I suppose I have seen a lot of stranger things happen in my life so who knows.

Do I think this will happen? No...but everyone has been saying that Burman needs to make a splash with this hire. Would any non-employed coach out there, even BCG, have been a bigger headline? No way...Bobby would be huge, highly unlikely, but huge.

Coach Knight has been coming out to Wyoming since 1970 I believe. That year he came out to Jackson hole to do a basketball clinic. That is where he started fishing. He became very good friends with Curt Gowdy and would go to Laramie for coaching clinics and hang out and fish with Curt Gowdy when Curt owned a radio station in Laramie. Coach Knight comes out to Wyoming every single year. SO I guess it is not out of the realm of possibility.

Right, we're going to offer Bob Knight.
Guy makes Gillispie look like a saint.

Other than his famous temper tantrums, what has he done? His players graduate, and none of his programs have ever been under NCAA investigation.

I would welcome Bob Knight with open arms, he is old that's true-but I think there are a lot of guys out there that would play for ol Bobby. Maybe Wyoming can reignite his coaching fire.

I'm for Bobby! Throw in Bailey and Gosar as assistants. Then Gosar can be the guy after 2 or 3 years.

Gillispie has never been under NCAA investigation and his players graduate. And I don't know of any famous temper tantrums.

Knight is NOT, repeat, NOT coming to UW. This is wishful thinking, but a tall-tale. Just because someone in the "athletics dept" mentioned his name, doesn't make it scripture. This could have been simple water-cooler talk and someone ran with it.

Sorry, this was just a really funny topic to me. No offense...just find it pretty out there.
