What a CF this will be... jesus.

Actually, if you look at the divisions for this, it actually makes a lot of sense, and allows regional rivals to continue to play eachother. Plus, the potential payout for this football only conference would be pretty big. Plus, it would allow annual games for the Front Range schools in Texas and Oklahoma.

When you start to look at this it makes sense, BE has the AQ and are falling apart. MWC is in danger of losing it's top teams to BE. But this way suddenly these 3 conferences join force the champion of all 3 has that AQ spot and now it doesn't matter if you are in the CUSA, MWC or the BE.

This is Thompson being proactive to keep teams in place and not losing teams.

On top of it all, If there is a playoff system between those 3 conferences that turned out to generate more overall revenue than how it's currently working it turns heads from the so called top conferences.

I personally like this and I hope it works out it could be the nail in the BCS coffin.

Looks a lot like they are keeping things pretty consistent to what they already are, they'll just now have the "WAC", "MWC", "CUSA", and "Big East" champs playing a 4 team playoff for the Big East's original BCS AQ spot. I actually don't hate the idea, from a Wyoming perspective, and love the idea from a general football fan, as I think it pushes the NCAA closer to a full playoff system.

Also, that Central division would suck something terrible.

From a NYT CFB writer: Big East is not considering the mega-merger plan reported earlier today. They haven't even seen it. Focused on growing to 12.

I like the megatron conference. Doesn't it seem like its oddly similar to the big boys plan to move the top schools to a different division? There would be FBS and FBS BCS division with the BCS throwing the FBS champ a bone in a BCS bowl. I don't hate it, but if a lot of the non AQ conferences merge, it's basically what we have. I hope the BE goes with it. They are about to have 0 teams in the top 25 and will not retain AQ status.

The BE would have to be pretty desperate to go along with this. This could be a sign that the teams the BE wants are telling them to pound sand.

It's an interesting concept one that I think could generate quite a bit of revenue considering you have 3 extra conference games each year (2 semi-final games and a conference championship game).

However, if it is supposed to be about the student athletes it makes for a lot of games if you win the conference. 12 game regular season, 1 conference semi-final, 1 conference championship and 1 BCS game.

15 games. Good for the fans. Not so good for the student athletes.

That's where I am with this. It's better than the current deal because it guarantees BCS status for the champion. And it proves that a playoff can work. Keep the group in 7 or 8 team "sub-conferences" and have the champs play each other (North v South, East v West or something similar) and then those two winners play. That allows for 7 "conference" games, two "playoff" games, and three OOC games. The winner of it all still gets their BCS game.

I'm all for anything that moves us toward a legit playoff. Done right, this could be ok.

The real question is, will the BE go for it? I don't see them losing their AQ status, regardless of who they bring in. Too much baggage there, and too much money to be lost. If they go for it, it will be a last, desparate move to stay relevant.

GO POKES!
