Big 12 Expansion

Now that BYU and its fans have taken a creampie to the face regarding Big 12 expansion, it's time to keep the guard up. Seriously. Mentioning the Mountain West and BYU in the same tweet is a daily occurrence for BYU-related tweeters and others. Yeah, the loud ones love to say "no way" to the MWC and let's:
1) Build our own conference
2) Take the best from the MWC and AAC to form a new conference
3) Remain Indy because of our beautiful P5 scheduling

But the fact remains: BYU fans continue to mention MWC/BYU in the same breath AND the recent Deseret poll showed 53% wanting to come back to the MWC. Very disturbing. It's nice to see some on this board giving their honest opinions about BYU's return. Besides, having dealt with that school and its fanbase for decades, would you really want to associate again with people whose favorite Halloween candy is Nerds? (Is that some sort of psychological projection? I don't know.) Just say "no way" to that school.

It's definitely nasty, but somehow I eat so much of it every Halloween.

I'd go broke if I gave full size candy bars away. My house got raped and pillaged last Halloween. Must have had over 200 trick-or-treaters.

We've only been averaging about 150

150 and 200 Trick-or-Treaters. Holy crap.

I think we had maybe 50-60 last year, and our neighborhood is apparently pretty great as my son came home with enough to last him until Christmas even though he only walked up and down our short street.

Our first year in our house we had like 12 if you include the pizza guy.........but when a neighborhood has a house or 2 with big candy bars, word tends to get around

Anyone else see this floating out there? Just one mans opinion but it is certainly an interesting view. Wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit.

He says UW and UNM then provides no reason other than it pushes the conference closer to the midwest and west Texas and increases the number of schools. They're better off sitting at 12 members than giving charity to UW or UNM.

The Pac-12 should add Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and one other school to get to 16. Possibly drop Oregon State and Washington State to create a west coast division of 8 teams and a midwest division of 8 teams. The remaining Big 12 schools become G5 level and the Pac-12 becomes a moster conference.

Even if Wyoming came with a lot of fans and a big media market, the University's academic acumen is nowhere close to qualifying to be in the PAC-12.

Serious question, what do they base this on? Obviously Stanford is head and shoulders above everyone. But, I just looked up some of the other schools medium scores for their acceptance into the university. Wyoming has higher incoming SAT scores than WSU, OSU, ASU, U of AZ, not as good as Colorado and Utah, and these are the only one's I looked up. How do they determine this, or is it just willy nilly?

Absolutely untrue. Academically, Wyoming is considered a peer of both Utah and ASU.

That's what I was thinking. We're like a top 100-120 public university. That's not shabby, at all.

Absolutely not. We are peers with Utah State, New Mexico State and Northern Arizona. We are one step below the highest level which Utah and ASU are part of. Our Carnegie classification is Doctoral R2 and they are Doctoral R1.

Why do any of these schools care about academics when we're talking about football conferences? It seems like a big fart sniffing competition of smugness with no relevancy to football.

That's one university ranking system. Are there not many? For example:

US News and world report rankings: http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandr...ges/rankings/national-universities?_mode=list
- Utah #111
- ASU #129
- Washington State #143
- Oregon State #143
- WYO #171
- UNM #176
- Utah State #220
- New Mexico State #220

AAU (Former Big10 requirement till Nebraska lost AAU membership): http://www.aau.edu/about/default.aspx?id=16710
- None of the above, but some other Pac 12 schools

Because in order for a school to be added by a conference it has to be agreed upon by the President's (and/or Trustees) of the current schools, not the ADs. President's are thinking about a lot more than just the extra money a school may bring to the conference, they don't want a new school to dilute the perceived academic integrity of their conference.

I also have to agree with some of the posts on here, Wyoming is not a slouch school, but we are not to the level of academic integrity to be considered peers of the majority of schools in the PAC-12 or Big Ten...but we sure have Boise beat.
