BCS dead, 4 team playoff in 2014

C. The one where u get banned from the board. I know it's nice having your one opinion and all, but I won't miss it.

i don't think i'm gonna get banned from wyonation for giving you a test that even an SEC all-american could get correct?

You don't have to do too much to get banned, just so long as everyone hates you, you'll be gone. I figure time is on my side.

In my opinion, this is a travesty. The quiet part that will hurt us is that the bowls are no longer contractually obligated to take a mid-major. Effectively, we have all been dropped down to a defacto DIV I AA+ status. You have to give Delaney, Hancock, and the others credit...they have basically formed a 64 team super-conference while selling the country a wooden nickel with this 'fairness' BS.

Dodd, Palm, and others are beginning to dig through all the gobshiite and are coming out with some good articles on this monstrosity. I can't wait to hear how the revenue is going to be shared (although, consolidated might be a more appropriate term)? A committee, in a back room, with hundreds of millions of dollars on the table is going to put together a fair playoff?

This is all true. Those of us outside of the 64 team "Big 4" had better get together, unite, and decide on a plan of action for our own good. If we do nothing, it will be like Hitler (the Big 4) invading Europe (those of us outside the Big 4).

And Godwin's Law.

I agree that these guys coming out of closed-door, super-secret meetings and breaking their arms patting each other on the back while touting "transparency" isn't good. But apart from Wyoming and the Mountain West not gaining anything yet, I still like that playoffs exist in the highest level of college football.

Great analogy, WYCowboy. :thumb: Only reason the good guys won WWII was because of the infamous Russian winter and the U.S. getting shoved into WWII by the Japanese (BTW, I don't buy the idea that FDR knew Japan was going to attack Pearl Harbor). So using your analogy, who's the U.S. and how does the good guys finally stop this "Hitler"? Can't sue them since a lot of admin of the schools that'll be outside of the "Big 4" wants to kiss up to them for future jobs.

I'm a history buff plus I have a B.A. on the subject.

Yes. And who are the Jews, gypsies and homos in this analogy?

I'm not being contentious, just appreciate Godwin's Law when it comes up.

If those left out of the BIG 64 are important enough to the BIG 64 then maybe standing up to them in unison might work.

You know, don't come home a drinkin with lovin on your mind.......

Just the other day Texas Tech stood up for themselves a bit and said that they would not play the Texas State game on the Longhorn network.
Said they'd cancel the game and play one game less on the season.
So ESPN is finding a different place to air the game.

I hope the teams outside of the Big 64 do something......they can't just fuel the smaller bowls forever. Fuck them......start your own playoff. Like I said, schools like Wyoming were never going to be on the level of Alabama anyway, so who gives a fuck?

I personally hope that ESPN gets the contract for the playoff games. That way, they won't feel the need to fund 17 low level bowl games. Sadly, the New Mexico Bowl would probably be on the chopping block, but so would the Beef O'Brady's bowl and Famous Idaho Potatoes Bowl.

I suppose I should be more patient before I trash this plan. I just don't have faith in Delaney and Co. reversing their entire BCS course in order to be more 'fair'. The amounts they are talking about for this thing are enormous and, instead of discarding the BCS, they simply put it on mega roids!

I would like to see the following:

1) Committee selection, transparency initiatives, decision matrix criteria.

2) Revenue sharing plan (the crap that was briefed looks fishy to me)

3) Designated bowl locations

4) Some reaction by Thompson and the Presidents about this

Ultimately, I believe it will be smelly excrement but, I could be wrong.

Forgot to mention...

Probably the most important thing I would like to see is clear and drastic penalties for schools/conferences found to be meddling with this playoff thingie. I'm talking entire conference 'death penalties' if a case is proved out. The NCAA needs to get ahead of this thing (if they still matter at all) and lay down the law early. With that kind of money at stake, there will absolutely be temptation to manipulate the process.

However, the NCAA probably won't do anything proactively. They will wait till rumors become substantial and then set poor precedences for future violators.

My goodness, I'm such a pessimist. :tickedoff:

All of this shit sucks. If you're a fan of one of the "have not's", there's little opportunity to be optimistic.

I'm with you. Fans of smaller budget schools don't have any precedent to look back at over the last 15 years to feel anything other than pessimism and wariness.

A few items starting to leak out:

http://www.southbendtribune.com/spo...s-for-swarbrick-20120627,0,2808348,full.story

So depending on how one feels about Craig Thompson, (I personally am starting to come around on him not being a total dipshit) the revenue distribution plan is the biggest question mark going forward. Don't really care myself if in the future the decision to include Auburn or Alabama in the playoff has to be made. I will not forget that in reading all of the information about possibilities for this system, the stakeholders in charge of these decisions have proven themselves to be nothing short of insatiable... well, thieves.

At least Steinbrecher and Thompson appear to be under the age of 85.

Also, BYU has got to be pissing in their magic underpants right now.

I would think so. Lots of talk about Notre Dame in the wake of all this. Swarbrick was doing his best to shine that turd but, 19 years of not much is finally hitting home. This might be the straw that breaks the camel's back and forces them to join a conference. I wonder if their deal changes with this new system? If so, how?

BYU is about fifty notches below the Irish in the national I gives a f$#@ department so....

I hear they are making 6 mil a year with BYUtv but, I don't see any possible way that revenue does anything but stays the same. I wonder how much they are (will be) shelling out for teams to come in late OCT/NOV? Are they breaking even? They seem to have kind of painted themselves into a corner with the scheduling. Any potential visiting team already has the upper hand in negotiations (I presume).

Let 'me rot says I.

Gotta agree with Murph here.....seems like the only thing that really changed in college football is that we get one extra game. The BCS isn't dead, they're just throwing their computers away and going by a different name.
