Basketball Coach Decision Time Frame...

I have been told that nothing will be announced, prior to "selection Sunday". And quite possibly a week or so after that. Not the direction or original plan (or thought) was set up.

Oh well...will be worth the wait.

look on the bright side, it gives us something to talk about after the basketball season instead of just hoping Schroyer gets fired!

Agreed. I think it has made the remainder of the season more exciting as well. The players do seem to have a better attitude and the crowd definitely did in the last home game (of course, being on the path to winning the game will do that).

From what I hear about the time frame for hiring a new coach it won't be announced until after "Selection Sunday"(which is 3-13 I believe). I am wondering why. I guess I can understand if the man we hire is coaching now and doesn't want his name released, but didn't we hire Christensen and announce it before the end of the season. I'm pretty sure his interview was before the end of the season. Why are we dragging our feet? I believe it has been a couple of weeks since Schroyer was let go. I can understand the UW admin getting their list, putting it into priorities, making contact with the candidates, discussing it with the selection committee, and then doing some interviews, but this shouldn't take more than 3 weeks at the most. Why sit on it or wait to make the hire for another 2 weeks. It leaves the door open for any number of things to go wrong. Maybe I'm pessimistic, but all these comments by other coaches in the conference weren't just casual comments - they were meant to hinder the process of Wyoming getting a good coach. Then there is bywho whose coaches and admin are degrading the MWC and Wyoming every chance they get. IMO, the longer we drag this out, the more difficult this will get.

Well, how do we know who the search committee has interviewed? If Shyatt is a candidate, are they allowed to interview him before the end of the season? I don't know the NCAA rules. I hope and pray that we don't hire an assistant with no head coaching experience. I guess I'm sounding like a broken record so I'll wait and hope like everyone else....for the last time - please hire Gilespie :deadhorse1:

DC wasn't hired until after the regular season (Glenn wasn't fired until the end of the regular season). It will be the same time frame for this hire. It will be after the regular season but likely before the post-season is complete (DC was hired before the bowl games were complete).

Every candidate except BCG is currently employed so they couldn't accept the job until after the season. I am sure there is a candidate list and initial contact between the search firm and potential candidates to gauge interest, however we won't likely see formal interviews until after the conference tournament.

Hey all, new to the boards! Glad to be here....so first off, bottome line- WE NEED GILLESPIE!!! In my opinion he is all that is right for this Cowboy squad. How great would it be to bring in Gillespie and reunite Cox as his assistant and heir to the throne in 3-4 years when Gillespie is taking off to a big conference school. If Burman doesn't make this happen, I am calling for his head!!

I would like to see an announcement at the MWC tourney. You have all of the MWC press together and can make a BIG splash all over the news!! Waiting till after selection sunday tells me they didn't get the big name and that they settled...well settling for cowboys fans and an "exciting hire" for Burman. The Cowboys need to be in the headlines....for a GOOD reason for once!!

Well that's my soapbox for the day!

And when Langley take the Pokes to the Sweet Sixteen - then who do you want?
Go Fred.....if he can get this team to the Sweet 16, then he deserves a chance to be HC. It would be nice if on the way to the Sweet 16, we won out. That would make the decision easier.

Haha...Langley won't get us past the first round....I'll give him the pigtail game- but that's as far as we go. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a 16 run, but I think your dreaming my friend.

Thanks for the welcome, I look forward to talking to some cowboys fans...all the news I get out here is the new Pac-12 Utes and the Independant/WCC BYU news.

The longer this process takes...the pool continues to shrink.

If TB & UW can't pull the trigger on someone the week after selection Sunday (say Monday March 14th), then they fucking better well have Shyatt or Dooley on the hook (and have to wait until the entire season is over for both / either Florida or Kansas respectively).

I have a bad feeling about this now...

Way too early to be getting concerned. If the end of the month rolls around and we still don't have anyone then I'll start to worry.

I don't care who they hire... as long as Fred Langley is GONE. That man makes me want to YACK all over him. :brick:
What about the ex head coach at Iowa Todd Lickliter? His overall record is 169-116.

I'll be getting concerned about the start of the NCAA tourney if we haven't at least been given a hint on what's going on. I feel like the fans want a hire before the start of the tourney (Gillespie or Cox) or at least be given assurance we'll see the likes of Shyatt, Dooley or Rice coming to Laramie.

Jeremy Cox would be a HUGE FUCKING mistake. Currently an assitant at a (3 & 13 / 9 & 21) South Florida. Now, if he brings BCG with him as head man...OK!

2009-10 USF Assistant
2007-09 Kentucky Assistant
2005 USA Basketball U-21 World Championships Team Court Coach
2006-07 Texas A&M Assistant

I agree with you, I don't want Cox as the HC right away. I want Gilespie coming in and bringing Cox in again as an assistant. That way when Gillespie takes off for bigger and better in 3 years we have a nicely groomed assistant taking over a program that's already re-established it's foundation. I just know that there are fans out there calling his name, but trust me...I am on your side. Maybe that's a selling point for Gillespie. Let him know he is here to help Cox, rebuild the program, rebuild his name and then let his "family" take over and have an opportunity to have his "dream job" in a better situation.
