Arroyo needs to be gone NOW!!

I just thought I would pull this one up.......I thought Arroyo was going to be big trouble watching the piss poor play calling in September. Many folks thought I was pre-mature on this. Obviously my thoughts on Arroyo have not changes. Good GOD.....SEND THIS CLOWN PACKING NOW!
 
Can't blame Arroyo for yesterday.. we had over 500 yards of total offense, and three 100 yard rushers. However, the inability of the defense to get some 3rd down stops against a QB making his first start sure didn't help us any. Plus three turnovers inside the UNM redzone hurt, which is squarely on the players.

500 yards sounds fine, but nearly half of that came in 3 plays. Sure, big plays are part of the game but it wasn't like we put together long sustaining drives. I remember a 3rd and 1 early on and all we could muster was a 3 yard loss.We had 55% 3rd down efficiency, UNM had 63%. They had the ball almost 15 minutes longer than we did and had 3 more first downs. The offense did not have a stellar day against a VERY bad team.
The bottom line is we got our ass beat by Mike Locksley and ALL the coaches are accountable. This one is just too hard to swallow.

The offense did fine. They put up more yards on them than SDSU did. The turnovers killed us, but thats a personnel problem, not an offensive coordinator problem. Now, the defense on the other hand...
 
Look at who they played.....Laramie High would have put up yards against them. Changes need to be made I would not mind seeing both coordinators dumped. I actually have had enough of Dave C. as well and would understand completely if he was dumped. This program is in shambles and something needs to be done.
 
I'd like to see the OC and the DC leave and replaced with a couple guys that have had some successful OC and DC experience at any college level. If they get rid of them and replace them with some of the present position coaches or another "youngest OC in the country", we'll probably end up where we are now.
 
4 Turnovers is what killed us not playcalling. Come on we had over 500 yards of offense the play calling was fine. Could it be improved yes but if we score one one of the turnovers in the red zone we win the game. My complaint is why was Herron put back in the game after the second fumble?

Our defense needs to improve as I am sure NM had the best offensive day of the season against us and 63% on 3rd down is totally unacceptable!

Keep in mind, without Arroyo, we probably don't have ACS or a NM bowl win. I think Arroyo did his job THIS game other than playing a fumbler a little too much but it is hard to know when they are going to happen. I am more disappointed with the Defense this game. I wonder how much better we would have been with Alex Stover healthy, or how we will play next year with those big DL transfers playing. Givem a chance to coach their recruits, if they are here for being able to recruit lets give them a chance to coach theirs first.

I hate to say it, but it will be interesting to see how NM is in a couple years with some of the blue chip recruits they have.
 
Arroyo did fine. He's put up 37 and now 31 on the Lobos. He was shut out a year ago against BYU and we had 20 against them this year...13 one was a defensive td. He's doing good. As an OC you can only hope your players execute on the field. Only hope that they don't turn the ball over.
 
I'm not calling for any change in the offensive staff for awhile. If I recall correctly, didn't Sween (last year's senior QB) have a different coordinator each of his 4 years? Didn't Glenn fire Coghill and then switch coordinators every year after that?

I don't think Wyoming can recruit enough players for the spread to make the offense as good as it needs to be to win consistently because nearly 50 other teams are recruiting the same kind of players. They include a bunch of today's top teams like Florida, Oregon, Mizzou, Utah, Michigan. West Virginia, and a host of others.

I think we ought to run a pro-set like USC and Boise. We were running the spread in '86 when none of the big schools were doing it and continued with 4 and 5 wides for most of a decade. It was novelty then, but now everyone has jumped on the wagon. I say keep the coordinator and change the system.
 
Glenn ran a pro style with not alot of success, and to answer your question about Glenn's OC he only had two at laramie(Cockhill & Cole, sween was just a bad qb). I think some type of the spread is the way to go, and I truly believe there is enough football talent to go around and be competive in our region/conference. RIght now our team has talent on both sides of the ball (not talent that would beat BCS conf. teams consistently but Mt west teams, WAC teams, and the occasional bcs conf opponent). We lack coaching ability to develop non skilled positions ( oline for instance) and right now our program lacks position depth because of low scholarship numbers (were at 65? should be at 85?). If our young coaching staff can develop skills needed to teach players schematically we will be competive. I don't know when that will happen or if it will.
 
In Glenn's defense I submit the following for comparison only.
Average passing yards over 6 seasons = 2200+. That includes the dismal final season with about 1300 yds. passing (ugh). Of course, our passing yards for this year won't be much better than the worst Joe Glenn one.
I will say the interception rate fell under DC from 1 pick for every 24 errant throws during Glenn's tenure; to 1 pick every 41 tosses. Big improvement, but it may be offset by the fact that this year will be the second fewest passing attempts for the past decade. But, not so fast my friend; touchdowns from running the spread tally up to 1for 29 pass attempts. Under Glenn's anemic offense it was 1for 24 passes. Glenn has the edge in the offensive passing attack.

DC passing offense is averaging 1900 yards a season and I'm including ACS's average for this last game against the sheep.

I'll also throw in players who produce all purpose yards. For example, Glenn averaged one player per season gaining 1,000 yards or more. Also averaged 1.6 players per season gaining 600+ yards per game.
So far for the vaunted spread we're shy of getting 2 players above an average of 700 yards from scrimmage.

You know what they say about stats.
 
You have to give DC 4-5 years to get his recruits in. Rome wasn't built in one day plus we are going from a power run game the spread offense. We don't have the players yet. When you look at all of our playmakers they are underclassmen and 70% of our team is underclassman. If our defense could stop a pregnant nun from running through a paper sack and if we didn't have a horendous schedule "the stats" would be much better. I think we all can agree this season is lost, and I am as pissed off as anybody, but have a little faith bro.
 
The main difference between offenses between Glenn and DC are skewed. Glenn had a bonafided super star in Jovon Bouknight, Glenn didn't leave any player the caliber of Bouknight when DC took over. The fact is we are one super star quality player away from being competitive.
