any updates on Larry's rehab??

Just did a quick look at his Twitter. Five days ago he posted that he was able to get out and shoot for the first time post-op. Doesn't mean much but he isn't behind schedule at the least.

I saw him on campus a couple weeks ago and he had a little limp, and then saw him a few days ago and I didn't notice a limp, if that means anything. Gotta be able to walk before he can run and jump.

I fear that there could be some conflict looming for the Fall. Nance continues to say that if he is not 100% he plans to redshirt. Coach continues to talk about how there is more than enough time to recover completely by the start of next season in terms that lead me to believe he does not think anything other than 100% recovery by the start of the season is even a reasonable possibility. I think it seems like player and coach are not on the same page.

I don't see a conflict. Larry Nance is saying the responsible thing for his future. Larry Shyatt is saying something that is one part technical truth (ie, it is entirely possible that Nance will be healthy at the start of next season) and one part optimism. I think Shyatt has earned the benefit of the doubt a thousand times over regarding whether he would pressure Nance to play if he's not 100% and endanger his future in basketball.

I don't want him to play until he's 100%, but I want that to be next year. I don't think it has to be by mid-November. If he can't play until early to mid-December, then I don't think he should redshirt. If he's not ready to go until January, then go ahead and take a redshirt.

Basically, if playing next year means he has to miss 5-6 non-conference games, then I'm all for it. If he has to miss the entire non-conference schedule, then that's not very fair to Nance and he should definitely redshirt.

It all depends on how far he has progressed and how comfortable he feels on it. If he has to redshirt, better safe than sorry.

maybe if he plays limited minutes in those non conference games, just to test it and see where he's at, and then maybe come conference he'll be fully ready...time will tell, it just seems many of our former players seem to rush it and then they are never the same, Ugo and Afam, but to have Larry with a much improved DC (we hope), Riley and Josh and others to compliment and Hank wanting to play it should be a fun exciting year yet again

Only problem with that is that if he plays in those conference games he won't be able to use his redshirt. He could apply for a medical redshirt then, but odds are he would be ready to play before the season is over meaning a medical redshirt probably wouldn't be approved.

He should redshirt, no matter how his knee feels. I think he knows this. Now if Riley could be convinced to red-shirt, then in the 2015-16 season there should be a championship, with the younger players having gaining valuable playing time in 2014 and Grabau, Josh, and Larry as seniors leading the 2015 team. Of course, 2014-15 would be, more than likely, a trashed season, but very valuable for the younger players.

Exactly! If he redshirted, that puts him and Adams as seniors together. Killer. Next year would be terrible but the youngins would get needed playing time which would also be a boom for Nance's senior year

I don't think next year would be a total loss without Larry honestly.
We wouldn't be where we wanted but we would be above .500

Grabau, Adams, McManamen, Hankerson, Cooke.
I'm not saying we are a Big Dance or even NIT team, just that it won't be horrible.
Probably really similar to a couple seasons ago. Win a bunch of OOC games, and then get rocked in MWC play.

maybe it's for the best if he sits this year out, graduates and the truly focuses on basketball year after next, i think they'll do anything they can to get him back in the saddle as soon as possible, let's hope it all goes for what works for both sides....

Larry has stated he will come back only when he is 100%. Hopefully that is this year. We are building something for the future and need to keep the momentum. If he is 100% and back on the court, the Pokes are in the hunt for the conference title.

Go Pokes!!

I think both Shyatt and Nance want Nance to play next season. However, I don't see Nance playing if he knows he's not 100 percent, especially since he knows he has a shot at the NBA. His family definitely don't want him to rush back. In addition, Shy isn't the type of coach that would sacrifice a players best interest for the short term best interest of his team.
