The MTN needs better exposure.. right now their coverage sucks. Unless you're Comcast, DirectTV, or in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, or any of the MWC states, you can't see them. I'm in the part of people that can't see them.. if the MTN was a more "national" channel, more widely available, it would certainly help revenue dollars.
I don't hate teams like Utah for switching conferences. I hate teams like Utah, SDSU, Florida State, Central Michigan and others for using us indigenas Americans as mascots, which in this case means "pet animals" when we are human beings. For me, it's racial, political and more.
I'm 1/2 indigenous American and 1/2 white European.
I can't stand tribes that OK the use of their people for mascots because to me it's like selling your soul.
BTW just recently Akron East HS in Ohio is FINALLY changing their "mascot" name from the "Orientals".
I always give an example of a nickname and a mascot by using North Texas. Eagles is their mascot. Mean Green is their nickname.
OK didn't mean to change the subject but just wanted to be understood why I hate those teams and always want them to lose.

I thought that Native Americans prided themselves on their individual tribes? And for that, I could have sworn UU recieved permission from the Ute Tribe to use their name. And when teams choose a name, it is out of respect for that group, especially if it comes from a Native American Tribe. It is not meant to disrespect tribes, but to honor them.Alysa said:

But the mtn. IS a national channel, as anyone in the country has access to it on DirecTV. Thats all I can ask for as a Poke fan living in California. I would never want a team mascot that I disrespected. I would want one that is geographical and reflected a past or present way of life (ie, Cowboy, 49er, Oiler, Boiler Maker, etc) or someone or something that is swift, powerful, or has abilities exceeding a typical human (ie, bear, eagle, falcon, etc).
It surprises me that "the fighting Irish" is not considered offensive since it conjures up images of drunken, rowdy Irishman in my mind, but whatever floats their boat! LOL
I have never felt it to be disrespectful when a school's mascot is a Ute or Aztec so long as it is presented with respect, taste, and honor. It would be a contradiction to name your school after someone or something that you were mocking, in my opinion. With that being said, if these nationalities find it offensive then change them! The funny thing is though, that I know more history about the Aztecs, the Utes, and the Seminoles, for example, because they ARE mascots than if they weren't.
Now calling a team "the Senators" now that is just downright disrespectful to your team!! LOL

Well, the mascot subject is one of my areas of specialization. I'm not going to teach all about it here. Literally, volumes of books can be written about it. Mascot has many meanings. One of them is "skinwalking". This is a magickal practice where one wears skins to become somethings else. (This includes wearing a costume at Halloween to become something else).
It includes things like a hunter wearing buffalo skins to become a buffalo so he can easily approach the herd to hunt.
A serial killer who kills women and wears their skins to become a woman. (Like Ed Gein).
Or a person who wears real or faux panther skins or costume to become a teams panther mascot.
The team magickally draws the powers of the panther to help them achieve the goal of victory.
It's a lot more than many realize and it goes pretty deep. Our ancestors knew these things but they have gotten lost along the way to almost everyone. It's all religious or belief systems.
It's not about being too sensitive. In actuality, using human races as mascots desensitizes people to believing that it is OK.
Not fighting with anyone here.......just saying. Indigenous Americans have been trying to get this changed since our Civil Rights movement in the '60s but when you are not important and you don't have a voice then you don't count.

Actually the MTN channel is available almost everywhere. I'm in Arizona and I get it with cox cable. Mainly only small local cable companies that don't have it.
With that being said I'll be streaming games all season long because Wyoming has nearly 100% coverage on MTN this year.

I'm right at the border of their coverage. I can't get The MTN unless I get it with direct tv. Yet, Hays, kansas, which is only 60 miles north from me gets it on their cable. GARBAGE!
