@ Air Force Academy

All hopes will now lie on winning the mw tournament. Any chances of an at large we can kiss good bye with our already very marginal rpi and other rankings plummeting after this game

Even with Nance the POKES don't win this game today.
I do not agree. We would have definitely won.

Not sure if we would have won or not but it would be a lot closer. Not having Nance is not allowing us to go inside at all which takes Cooke out of the game also and then on defense it just screws it all up. Oh well. On to the next one.

Remember, Nance just isn't offense doc. He's our best defensive player too

Oh I am aware, but with the way AF was scorching from the outside today and the dreadful shooting by the POKES today...no, I can't see them winning this game.

Puke in my mouth, but I agree with you Doc. There isn't a thing we could do today if they're gonna sink 6 out of every 10 shots they throw at the rim. If frickin absurd. Yet again, another team having their best game of the season against us.

You make it sound like it would have been the exact same game with Nance inserted into it. The whole dynamic would have changed. Still, I said at beginning of thread that I was worried about it before nance was even out

There is a possible reason that Wyoming is in the top 5 in scoring defense: They hold the ball so long the opponent doesn't have many minutes to score. And if they miss a few, well, they are screwed. I think that it is a myth that Wyo is a great defensive team. AFA didn't miss a few - in fact most of the 3's were wide open. Contrast that to the AFA defense on the perimiter - very few good looks (and of course too many misses on the open ones).

I think Wyoming is a good defensive team with Nance, but we are not a great defensive team and you are correct that our scoring defense is much more a function of our pace of play. CSU had a lot of open looks the other night too, just weren't hitting them. 3 point defense has been a glaring problem.

I don't know if Air Force had a shot contested the entire game. That has nothing to do with Nance.

Actually it has a lot to do with Nance. I am not saying we would have won. We may have lost anyways but without Nance in the lineup it completely screws up the defensive rotations. No Nance down low makes it easier for teams to take it to the rim and then you have our guys sagging off of shooters or trying to help down low so when there is a dribble drive they get kick outs and ball rotations with our guys not where they would normally be and you get wide open shots. Which is what happened today.

In a zone defense same deal. Without Nance you have one less guy backing you up down low and you are getting ball rotations with more space everywhere on the floor leaving shooter more uncontested and wide open for shots.

Oh well it is what it is. Even with Nance they may have hit a lot of shots anyways. Who knows. Over and done with now.

Need to forget this one and hope we get hot down the stretch with a healthy Nance and Herndon.

Its the same as last year. We're pretty good with Nance and a cellar dweller with out him. Its Nance, Nance and Nance. Did I mention Nance. If Nance is out for a extended amount of time, start booking your CBI reservations NOW!

We are top-50 in the country in FG percentage defense.

Yep. Makes me wonder what we have for next year without him. Hoping the bigs we recruited are going to be good otherwise it might me ugly.

You have way more confidence to run AF off the three-point line if you know Larry is behind to help. Domino effect...

Ugh. This was the kind of loss we could not afford. At-large hopes aren't looking good, probably need to beast SDSU to off-set this loss. This team isn't doomed, they can still win one of or both the regular season/tournament title. Winning either of them gives the team a good chance on Selection Sunday. But make no mistake about it, I think this team just used up its last bad loss.

I'm going to have to disagree with you a little. Don't know if you were at the game, I just left the game in person, and in person just so many looks where the WYO defender is 2-3 ft away from the Air Force player, the Air Force player rises for a shot and the WYO defender just casually raises a hand. No rotations, everyone is technically "in position." But just no contests on the shot attempts.

So far the bigs I have seen is Herndon, sooooooooo skinny and weak with some nice skills, Barnes is a big stiff that needs ALOT of work and Williams, a redshirt that, well redshirted. I'm voting it gets kinda of ugly.
