This is part of the problem with our team and fans. Everyone bitches that we take the foot off the gas. Myself, I expect nothing less than to cover the spread every game. There are no other options. You have to teach a killer instinct, and the way to do that is to make sure to put your foot on their throat....and stomp!

I hear the 1st defense was very upset over the 2nd team letting Idaho score...twice. I hope the leaders of this team instill that in the second teams....something to build on. There are no lowered expectations between the 1st and 2nd teams. IMHO.

Hmmm. Good post...but I don't think everyone bitches. Some of our fans are simply clueless. Losing doesn't bother them. That KILLS me.

I don't want to see Wyoming win 10 - 9. I want to see Wyoming win 63 - 0. I want to see ass kickings again. I don't want to have to worry that we pussied out and went conservative, and gave the other team a chance at the end (or let them back in at the end). Last years CSewe game headed that way, and it made me crazy.

Well said McPeachy. Why would people only want our starters to play a little before putting in the backups. If you pull the first string out at half time, a hell of alot can change over the second half. You lose momentum and potentially lose the game.

If the game is in hand, by 40 or more points, I would take them out late in the third, or early fourth quarter. I would bring them out for at least some of the 3rd quarter though.

There is a big difference between taking your starters out up by 40 half way through the 4th quarter and taking them out in at half. I agree that you don't take starters out at the half, or even the 3rd quarter. However, if you are up huge in the 4th it is probably a better move to get your reserves some playing time.

Guy on my Facebook went crazy saying Dave was a pussy for not keeping his foot on the gas, up 42-0. Kind of a WTF moment.. why would you risk a starter up by 6 TDs in the 4th?
No one's saying risk the starter. If we're that good, our 2nd team should be as good as a team like Idaho's 1st.

No professional, but ive always liked the theory of letting the starters play at least 3 qtrs. i also like to keep the defense maintaining its regular rotation throughout the game....no sypathy from the defense, let em rack up stats and big hits, pitch a shutout, etc. I do see the flipside some valuable game experience for a young guy when it cant hurt the team.

Good problems to have.

I'm with McPeachy on this. If we are ever going to get back to National prominence we really need to beat the crap out of teams when the opportunity exists. It gets you noticed by the media, who in turn get it out to our potential future recruits. Boise didn't start getting noticed by winning low scoring close games. It had to have an effect on their superior recruiting. Having said that, it is a fine line if you want to see the non-regulars get some snaps or if the coaches see fatigue in some of the starters, which could lead to injury. I guess it comes down to what you are trying to build. If it's a big time program, apply pressure until the end. If you're only looking to qualify for a bowl game and make a little noise in the conference, then pull the starters to keep them safe and get experience for the back-ups.
