'26 Record predictons

I asked Google AI if there had been any successful college football coaches who started their careers with 2 or more 8 loss seasons. Frank Beamer was the only result. Maybe AI got it wrong and there are others. But I'm not holding my breath. I say 3-9. And to those who say we have an "easy" schedule: There isn't a single opponent on our schedule that doesn't view us as a winnable game.

It all hinges on Hughes at QB and Taylor the new OC. The defense should be better than average, so if the offense is at least average 6-6, If not 5-7

  • CSU

    at
    Colorado State University
    Loss: Win percentage 30%
    Record 0-1

We lose to CSU and wheels are off--
I have 5 wins at the most: WINS: Likelihood 65%
UNC, CMU. NIU, UTEP and UConn

If we beat CSU, Then I am thinking we might be a tinge better and we get to 6 or 7 wins! CMU is a trap game--on the road and we feel like a big dog which we are not!

7 win likelihood 35% ; 6 win likelihood 45%. Maybe we beat SJSU for 6 wins--take an upset to get to 7 wins.

I also see the situatiion we are shelled at CSU and then UNC has their day in the sun or we squeak by UNC opr we lose at CMU--enroute to 2-3 win season. Likelihood 25%

My contacts are telling me that Wyoming's offense is not great. The WR room not very good?

The defense remains stout and Hughes leads the team to an offensive explosion and the team averages 24pts/gm. We win the two games we lost by <6 last year and pick up a few others. Working real hard here to get to 8 wins  I could easily give us a loss to Central on the road or home Hawaii. Wanted to win on road@UTEP but we laid an egg against someone down south some years ago. Texas st or Tulsa or north texas etc

5-7

Sheep- I could see the Pokes squeaking out a win in FoCo, but not a full on shellacking like last year. Long term I think the sheep have a decent guy in Mora, but that place is in shambles. First game out under the new regime is a good opportunity for the Pokes to get this one.

Greeley-Picked to finish 11th in the Big Sky, should be an easy W in front of a good crowd. Good weather and optimism abounds on the High Plains.

Central Michigan-Long road trip against a team with continuity from a 7 win year last year. They've got a good offense, bad defense, not sure the Pokes get this one done.

Hawaii-Warriors are building a lot of momentum, not sure the Pokes can get this one done.

NDSU-Road game in a dome, I think it's homecoming weekend in Fargo and Polasek probably will have a much better game plan. Not sure I can see a win here.

Joser- Flukey kind of game where the Pokes steal one on the road, Pokes win on a pick six or a special teams play.

Northern Illinois-They've got problems, we do too, their problems are worse-Pokes win.

AFA-Should've beaten them last year, tough game as always I think the Pokes D has a big day and offense doesn't run gimmicky plays and clip the falcons.

Vegas-Rebs are going to be salty again, enjoy Vegas for those heading down.

UTEP-Not sure the Miners have much going for them, and in a game the Pokes should win for bowl eligibility, I could see the Pokes put up a less than stellar performance. Prove us wrong kind of game that sets the tone for the final two games.Win this and they might win out, lose this and I think they spit the bit and start looking forward to the offseason.

UNM-Lobos have some momentum, gonna be a tough one as they'll be playing an important game in November.

UCONN-who knows what they'll have left in the tank, but could see this being an easy W to secure 6-6, which should be motivation enough-or it being a total sleep walk/go through the motions to be done for the year. Another prove us wrong kind of game.

I am clueless but here’s what my AI says

Wyoming’s most likely 2026 record is 6–6, with a reasonable range of 5–7 to 7–5.

The schedule is more manageable than recent seasons—no Power Four opponents, one FCS game against Northern Colorado, and several winnable home games—but the Cowboys also face challenging road trips to North Dakota State, San Jose State, UNLV, and UTEP. Their projected win total is 5.5, with some preseason analysts leaning slightly toward the over. collegefootballnews.com2

Likely wins include:

  • Northern Colorado
  • Northern Illinois
  • UTEP
  • UConn
  • One or two of Hawaii, Air Force, NewMexico, San Jose State, or ColoradoState
Likely losses include:

  • Central Michigan
  • North Dakota State
  • UNLV
  • One or two close Mountain West games
Prediction: 6–6 overall, approximately 4–4 in Mountain West play. A bowl berth would be a realistic and meaningful improvement after Wyoming’s 4–8 season.
