Wyoming to host Mountain West Championship game vs. San Diego State (WyoSports.net)

"We’re going to need to play well for a chance to win,” Bohl said. “We didn’t get it done (against New Mexico) and we need to get ready to play San Diego State in a short amount of time. We’re playing for a championship and that’s why we have to bounce back.”

Behind Enemy Lines:

3 Things We Learned from the Aztecs' loss to Colorado State (SD Union Tribune)

2. A case for the defense?

Colorado State’s receivers — especially standout Michael Gallup — found seams in the SDSU defense that had not been exploited since Week 2 against a Cal.

The Rams running game was equally effective, with their three talented backs totaling nearly 300 yards on the ground.

Is the defense, as Long suggested, “tired and worn out” at this point? Good question. Is this a trend or was it an aberration?

I know Wikipedia isn't an academic source but usually dependable for things like this. According to Wikipedia the vegas bowl is contracted to take the mountain west champion.

This article makes it sound like it's not contracted to take the mountain west champion.

Craig Bohl Weekly Press Conference - Week 14 (11-28-16) -- Wyo-Vision

Wyoming Head Football Coach Craig Bohl's weekly press conference for Week 14 as the Pokes prepare to host San Diego State in the 2016 Mountain West Football Championship Game on Saturday night.

He's a funny dude. I loved his comment, "Craig Bohl 1, Twitter 0". Love his even keel, no excuses mentality. It is easy, as Cowboy fans to be up and and down and all emotional all the time. Coach Bohl is great about staying on one level, not getting too wrapped around the axle about anything. It is refreshing.

I appreciate that he didn't bash the refs as much as he definitely wanted to. He would be fined for doing that and he did a good job not getting suckered into it.

The news wasn’t good about senior outside linebacker D.J. May, who will be lost for the rest of the season with what appears to be a pectoral injury suffered in last Saturday’s 56-35 loss at New Mexico. That’s the third UW defensive starter that’s been lost to a season-ending injury this season (NT Chase Appleby and DE Carl Granderson are the others).

Wyoming loses May for season, 3rd defensive starter this season (WyoSports.net)

LARAMIE – For the second time in as many weeks, the University of Wyoming football team lost a defensive starter to a season-ending injury.

Third-year coach Craig Bohl said Monday during his weekly news conference senior outside linebacker D.J. May is done after he suffered a pectoral injury in the second half of the Cowboys’ 56-35 loss at New Mexico last Saturday.

Junior Tim Kamana is slated to replace May for Saturday’s MW Championship Game against San Diego State. True freshman Cassh Maluia, who has played mostly on special teams this season, is Kamana’s backup.

“Tim’s an older player who’s played quite a bit. Cassh’s got a lot of ability,” Bohl said. “How we chose the guy and how we rotate our guys will be determined by how they do in practice,” Bohl said.

Nulph column: Schembechler’s famous slogan rings true for Wyoming (WyoSports.net)

“Those who stay will be champions.”

It’s a catchy phrase first coined by the late legendary Michigan coach Bo Schembechler, who issued the challenge to his team after nearly half of a squad of 140 players left following a grueling camp instituted by the new Wolverines coach in 1969.

“Right away, I knew that would be a true statement,” Roullier said. “Obviously, after a couple years, it was tough. But this senior class really kept believing.

“Everyone believed in what the coaches were saying.”

Bohls a definite leader. He took responsibility for the loss, isn't dwelling on it, learning from it and moving on. Far different than the attitude of the old regimes where we were led to believe that Wyoming can't recruit good enough players to challenge so we'll settle. I think that belief has been debunked.

Bohl knows how to lead, spot talent, recruit, and build champions.

"Those who stay will be champions".

I will be in Laramie Saturday.

Go Pokes!!!!

Wyoming speedster Rico Gafford takes over kick return duties with D.J. May out (trib.com)

“I’m a guy that likes to use my speed, so I’m very comfortable with being back there,” Gafford said. “D.J. was a great returner for us back there. He had a lot of explosive returns, and we’re obviously going to miss him in the return game and on the defensive side of the ball. I’m just going to go out there and do what I can for D.J. since he is out for the rest of the season.”

“Rico is probably the fastest guy on our team,” said May, who also competed in track in high school. “... I did more like the 400 and the jumps and the relays. But Rico, I think Rico ran a 10.5, so he’s probably the fastest guy we’ve got on the team. But everybody knows we compete. It’s good. We’ve got some speed on the team.”
