“One of the areas (Naughton) has really matured is being a guy we can throw it to in the post who gets buckets,” Edwards said. “… How we’re playing going forward helps him. One of the things I got on him about was being able to run because he’s very long and does a great job of protecting the rim.

“He does a great job defensively. He also does a good job of finishing with his back to the basket. We, as a staff, tried to give our guys confidence in the areas they’re good in.”

James' free throws lifts Wyoming past Montana (WyoSports.net)

“That last possession speaks volumes to the character of our ball club,” first-year coach Allen Edwards said.

Early in the second half, I thought we moved the ball around the perimeter and just settled for shots, but we didn’t panic and finished out the game the right way,” Edwards said.

“I don’t know if we can rely on just one guy, and I think we’re a deep team and went with a pretty skilled lineup down the stretch in this one,” Edwards said.

Montana men's basketball: Wyoming edges Grizzlies (Missoulian.com)

“It’s tough officiating. There’s hand checks and you can’t call them all,” coach Travis DeCuire said of the final play. “…But we got some whistles (this game), we got to the free throw line and we didn’t make them.

“You almost wonder if you want the call if you’re not making free throws.”

Did someone tell Geoff Grammer, that it's pretty good for the team he picked to finish 10th in the MWC?

Bench players come up big for Wyoming men's basketball (trib.com)

That unselfish attitude has been apparent through Wyoming’s first two games. In addition to Dalton, Wyoming got double-digit points off the bench from James, as he scored a career-high 19 against the Grizzlies.

“That’s the good thing about this team,” said James, who also set a career high with eight field goals. “We have scorers everywhere. We have so many people who can do different things, and we’re all unselfish, so that’s great.”

Different player, different game approach working for Wyoming (WyoSports.net)

“As a staff, we felt this group would be more balanced than top-heavy, and I like that about us,” Edwards said. “Some guys played more or less from our first game to our second game. That could change throughout the season, as well as the guy who leads us in scoring.”

“It’s awesome and a real good dynamic for us,” Dalton said. “Teams have to choose who they’re going to stop, and we have a lot of guys that teams have to consider.

“For any of us, our time could be in the next game, next week or next month. As a result, practices have been more intense, with all of us wanting to get better.”

Wyoming outlasts South Dakota State to improve to 3-0 (WyoSports.net)

“The biggest thing I addressed was defense,” said Cowboys first-year coach Allen Edwards, who became the first Cowboys coach to start 3-0 in his first season since Larry Shyatt did it in the 1997-98 season. “When you hear how the team reflects the coach, I pretty much told them that was not me (in the first half). They responded the first six or seven possessions and got stops and gained the lead.”
