— UW could be good in Edwards’ more up-tempo style. Don’t look for it to be a crazy run-and-gun type of tempo, but there are enough athletes on this team to be able to get out in transition and create open shots for each other.

Redshirt year should benefit Moemeka (WyoSports.net)

“(Redshirting) wasn’t hard at all because I was looking at the big picture. I put on some weight (was listed at 210 pounds last season). I got more athletic and built more chemistry with the team. Those were the most important things to me.”

“He’s a freak of nature in the sense of his athleticism and his ability to run,” Edwards said. “You put him on the line, and he’d be in our top three as far as sprints.

“He’s had a really good preseason. He’s been active, and good with blocking shots and getting deflections. He’s probably our best hustle-stats guy.”

For UW’s Jason McManamen, You Can Go Home Again

A senior guard who will be counted on this season to be the unquestionable leader for the University of Wyoming Cowboys men’s basketball team isn’t supposed to be so nervous. He’s supposed to be a steady presence, leading, offering veteran leadership on the floor, while also applying that deadly outside shooting that can demoralize an opposing team.

“I think when you think about what we’ve been doing the last five years under Coach Shy, it was more about ball control,” Edwards said. “My thing to them was there’s still a little bit within that, but I just want guys to understand that if they’re open and balanced and it’s early in the clock, shoot the basketball. Where when we were more ball-control, it was more about, it may not be the best shot for us right then, let’s work them a little bit more, and then let’s get something later in the clock.”

Wyoming men's basketball still arranging pieces to the puzzle (trib.com)

"I think the best part about this team right now is our numbers," Edwards said. "I think we have a lot of options to put out on the floor to where I’m not stuck on maybe six or seven guys. I think we can get to nine and play that group consistently."

"My thing to anybody on this team is I care more about a guy being selfish about trying to be on the all-defensive team," he said. "And I think we have a few guys that, if they buckle down and really got into it, could possibly do that. So I’m not in a sense counting on a guy to say, 'I need you to go out there and score 20, 30 points for us to be successful.’

Marshall remains patient for his chance (WyoSports.net)

“He fits in the athletic realm for us,” Edwards said. “He’s another guy with the ability to be a really good defender. He is a tremendous offensive rebounder, and an above-the-rim guy. I also think he shoots the ball well.”

“That was the toughest year I’ve ever had,” Marshall said. “But I learned that I am a strong-minded individual. It brought me closer spiritually, and it showed me that I’ve matured.”

Naughton carries Wyoming to season opening win (WyoSports.net)

“We have some guys inside that teams have to help on and that really opens up things for me,” said junior Alexander Aka Gorski, who scored a career-high 20 points with five 3s. “I don’t have to do much, I just have to stand there and shoot it.”

Naughton, Aka Gorski lift Wyoming Cowboys to win in Edwards' coaching debut (trib.com)

"I'm excited about this being my first win as a Division-I head coach," Edwards said. "The guys gave me a little celebration in the locker room and gave me the game ball."

Even more impressive than the 88 points they scored is that the Cowboys turned the ball over only 11 times.

"Last year when we played at a more-deliberate pace we would shoot for 10 (turnovers)," Edwards said. "So for us to only have 11 is good, especially since we had 17 the other night against Chadron State."
