Something fishy or just the right circumstances?

Pac12 champ makes playoff, Big10 champ makes playoff. #2 in Pac and #2 in Big10 are not worth of New Years Day bowl. That would be the situation for a G5 team to get in right?

I read somewhere that the B1G commish Delaney made damn sure the Rose Bowl is between a Pac-12 and B1G team. The powers that be will fight tooth and nail to make sure a Go5 team doesn't end up there.

The exception to that is if a Big Ten or Pac 12 team is in the national title game, as Oregon was that season.

One of the playoff games was the Rose Bowl last season (Oregon vs. Florida State). When it is not, they'll do everything they can to keep tradition in tact. If Florida State-Oregon had been elsewhere, Michigan State would have played Arizona in Pasadena.

Definitely going to take a significant amount of time to get Access slot...about the same amount of time as winning the MWC. The two likely go hand in hand.

I wonder what will happen first: we are actually in the discussion for winning MWC and gaining Access slot or we are in a division that doesn't have an "Access slot"?

I predict both are going to happen; I just hope we get there fast enough while the MWC still is in FBS.

Jeez, I am looking fwd to ABQ next fall. I went last few times and had a riot. That Fresno game, goal line stand, Unrein fumble, etc was great. Maybe it is me showing my helpless fandom, but I would honestly take ANY bowl game at this juncture. Literally, any.

Wyoming has won two bowl games this century, UCLA and Fresno...both regarded as some of the best wins in program history. Wyoming is absolutely in no position to be thinking lower level bowl games are somehow beneath the program. If you account forUW football's history dating back to 1951, even the glory years, Wyoming averages going to a bowl game once every 4 years. If you include all of program history, it's once every 9 years. Obviously circumstances of specific eras distort those stats, but either way it's not like Wyoming has a history of making bowl games an annual regularity.

You can't just gloss over this point though. Look at the late 90s:

95: 6-5
96: 10-2, Division Champs, Top 25
97: 7-6 with a heartbreaking last second loss at CU (when CU was a good football program) and a competitive loss @ Ohio St.
98: 8-3
99: 7-4, one game out of 1st place in the MWC

All of those teams were better than the 2004 and 2009 teams you reference (actually, the 2006 team was far better than 2009, but got screwed out of a bowl too). You can't look at bowl history and think of it in terms of the modern day bowl structure.

Yep. Today, almost all bowl-eligible teams (6 wins) receive a bid. Wyoming was bowl-eligible in 15 of the 20 seasons in the 80's and 90's and received only 4 bowl bids. They were left on the sidelines, not just the 10 win 96 team but also multiple 8 win and 7 win teams along with a handful of 6-5 type teams. 6 different coaches coached Wyoming during that tenure and each of them reached at least 6 wins in a season.

Just food for thought when people make excuses that it is too hard to win at Wyoming. I didn't see a lot of Top 25 teams (a couple) or major bowl bids prior to Vic Koenning, but there weren't a lot of losing seasons either.

Thanks for posting that. Changes my opinion a bit.

Eventually I would love Wyo to have national titles, BCS/New Years 6 Bowls, Top 25 rankings, conference titles, multiple 10 win seasons. But for now, I will gladly take a string of LOWEST level bowls. It would be nice to go to other bowl games besides the NM bowl, because that will eventually play into our tradition. No one wants to be known for being the annual competitor in the NM Bowl.

If Bohl can get us a string of 5 straight bowl years, with 3 or 4 wins, before we start really competing for the MWC title on a yearly basis, I would be absolutely ecstatic.
