2015 MW Schedule coming out today

I'm really, really hoping for bowl eligibility this year. We need something tangible to feel good about. But, if things don't go so well this year I have a feeling people are going to start grumbling about Bohl (which would be absolutely asinine). Just like any rebuild this is a four-five year project. I just hope people have the vision and patience to ride this thing out.

With Jason Thompson at QB we beat SJSU and probably New Mexico and maybe another. The offense wouldn't have stalled out as much and Thompson has the ability to run. Colby often didn't even though there were many opportunities to tuck it and gain some big yards.

Coffman should make defenses more honest. Teams won't be able to stack the box in hopes of shutting down Wick and Hill. He has a couple decent targets in Maulhardt, Gentry, etc. I hope he has the ability to pull it down and run with it if nobody is open. We needed that last year.

Special teams are what really killed us last year. Need to get speed guys on the field....even some of the incoming freshman.

Go Pokes!!

Yup I agree, if Coffman is what they say he is then he will definitely keep the defense honest with respecting the pass. something we definitely lacked last season. Btw does anyone know if Coffman is a mobile Qb? Does he have the ability to keep it and run? Also I'm happy that Bohl aaddressed the lack of speed and athletes on special teams. They were horrific in latter stages of the season. Especially the New Mexico game.

I'm not saying there is no chance of a bowl. I very excited for this second year. I also think people are going to look at WSU and Appy st and say, "Well, it ain't Oregon or Mich St., so we should be undefeated!" And jus like this years basketball team, people will jump on to an over inflated state of our program and think this should be the best year in years! When in fact, we aren't there yet.
When in all actuality, playing at WSU is quite tough and , Appy St. has some serious talent coming back.
We're looking for a QB again. We lost some of our top WRs.'we have an okay line intact and we have good RBs. Our D, still needs massive work, but I think it's getting better. Just birds eye viewing it, 5-7, the make or break game to get us to bowl eligibility is Nevada.
I pretty much agree.

I'm about as optimistic as they come, and even I'm not ready to say we're going bowling quite yet.

It is a 4 to 5 year project, and the REAL results should start showing up by then. But in my opinion, I think a coach needs like 6 or 7 years. Let the players he recruited in his 2nd or 3rd class become seniors. The first class is always the scrambled-together class. The second class is more true and reflecting of the coach and the teams needs. But the 3rd recruiting class is guaranteed to be full on what coach Bohl is wanting and bringing in.

But in the meantime, it would be great to be going to bowl games like the Potato, New Mexico, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Poinsettia Bowl, etc. I realize how terrible our program has been, do I would gladly take winning some low level bowl games, hitting 7 or 8 wins a year. If we can do that for like 3 or 4 years in a row, Bohl may be the best coach in Wyo history. Well, since the modern college football landscape became what it is.

Wyoming has won two bowl games this century, UCLA and Fresno...both regarded as some of the best wins in program history. Wyoming is absolutely in no position to be thinking lower level bowl games are somehow beneath the program. If you account forUW football's history dating back to 1951, even the glory years, Wyoming averages going to a bowl game once every 4 years. If you include all of program history, it's once every 9 years. Obviously circumstances of specific eras distort those stats, but either way it's not like Wyoming has a history of making bowl games an annual regularity.

So I'm just saying....if your ultimate goal for happiness as a Wyoming fan is solely based on winning major bowl games, you're going to be one miserable fan. When Bohl gets Wyoming to the New Mexico, Potato, Poinsettia, etc. Bowl, don't degrade the accomplishment, enjoy it.

Translation: you can forget about EVER seeing our Pokes in a Access bowl or better! In other words, no return trips to the Fiesta Bowl or to the Sugar Bowl (a game we shoulda won btw)

Lol.

Not really. If Wyo can build up throughout the next 4 or 5 seasons, win 3 or 4 lower level bowl games, ride the momentum harder than ever, land a recruiting class with a few game changers, the Pokes could win the MWC in another 3 or 4 years, and if they happen to be the highest ranked non-P5 team, they will end up in an access bowl. Big time bowl game vs a big time opponent. And depending on what year it is, depending on what bowl games are going to be the P5 playoff games, and depending on what teams are in the playoffs (SEC? Big12? Pac12?) it could be the Sugar Bowl or Fiesta Bowl. I think it could even be the Rose Bowl.

Never is a long time. I'm not saying it's impossible, only that if the only barometer for "success" is access bowls, every Wyoming coach is going to get fired. There are several great Go5 programs with traditions of on-field success who don't have an BCS/access bowl to their name.

I'm just saying...Wyoming fans are in no place to be degrading lower bowl games. If Bohl gets Wyoming to the New Mexico Bowl next fall, I better not see anyone saying, "Please, it's just the New Mexico Bowl  " like Wyoming is some juggernaut football program.

J-Rod, am I right about the highest ranked G5 team making the Rose Bowl or Sugar Bowl depending on the teams in the playoffs and which games are the playoff games?

Like... if the Fiesta and Orange were the playoff games, and a Pac12 team named, oh I don't know, let's just say the Beavers were in the playoffs, could the Pokes being the highest ranked G5 team get invited to the Rose Bowl?

You are correct, it rotates annually. Last year the Fiesta Bowl was the likely destination, this year it's either the Peach Bowl or the Sugar Bowl. Really, the Go5 rep can play anywhere that is not the two playoff sites (in 2016, it will be Cotton/Orange bowls). It is expected that the Rose Bowl will bend over backwards to make sure they continue their Big Ten vs. Pac-12 tradition though. That is the one bowl unlikely to host a Go5 team. Something fishy would have to happen.

Something fishy or just the right circumstances?

Pac12 champ makes playoff, Big10 champ makes playoff. #2 in Pac and #2 in Big10 are not worth of New Years Day bowl. That would be the situation for a G5 team to get in right?

Wasn't the Boise-TCU game a few years back, when they were both undefeated a Rose Bowl? Or am I mistaken?

I read somewhere that the B1G commish Delaney made damn sure the Rose Bowl is between a Pac-12 and B1G team. The powers that be will fight tooth and nail to make sure a Go5 team doesn't end up there.

I think I remember seeing that too. And my mistake on the Rose Bowl, but TCU was in one recently, weren't they? Against Wiscy i think?

And then we played them in Laramie for the last time the following year.
