I am hoping that you can help me as I do my research on the great Eddie Talboom and the undefeated 1950 Cowboys.
One of the highlights of my retirement has been putting together ‘The Finest of the Fifties’: The top 64 college football teams of the decade, representing 64 different schools, have been divided into eight geographic regions. Seven-game round-robin seasons are played within each region with the eight winners advancing to a ‘grand finale’ season.
These Cowboys will be playing in the highly competitive ‘North Regional’; their opposition will be: ’51 Wisconsin, ’56 Minnesota, ’56 Iowa, ’59 Oregon, ’57 Oregon State, ’59 Washington, and ’51 Washington State.
I believe the Cowboys have a good a chance as any to win this regional, and advance against the regional winners who thus far are: ’59 Syracuse (East), ’58 LSU (South), and ’52 Georgia Tech (Deep South).
The vehicle that I am using is a marvellous PC game called ‘Second and Ten’ (SAT), that I have been playing for seven years. The game utilises both team and individual statistics; the more detailed the numbers, the more realistic the results. I use newspaper accounts of the games, media guides, yearbooks, and books written about the teams - whatever is available.
My Internet findings to date have been pretty lean – although the Gator Bowl win over Washington and Lee was fairly well documented. I was wondering if there might be perhaps an old media guide, or a statistics report on that 1950 season.
Thank you for any help and guidance.
Tony
