What to see in Laramie?

I will be traveling with a few others for the Northern Illinois game.

We will be arriving in town early Friday and attending Saturday's game.

None of us have been to Laramie. Any things to see or take in? Noted these restaurants in the area. We have a few members who are gluten free.

The Cowboy Saloon & Dance Hall
The Library Sports Grille & Brewery
The Crowbar & Grill
Altitude Chophouse & Brewery
Born in a Barn
The Railyard
Andale Rapido
Prairie Rose Cafe

Crowbar and Altitude are good options. Prairie Rose has great breakfast burritos. Sweet Mellisa’s isn’t on your list, but they have awesome vegetarian options. You should drive about 20 minutes east of Laramie and go to a place called Vedavoo. (It’s spelled wrong) Cool hiking and amazing scenery. Make sure you are in the bars downtown on Friday night. The Western Thunder Band will be traveling from bar to bar.

Altitude's is a great place. Greg and Karen hired me to open that place back in 1999. I worked at Lovejoys while going to school back then and had a few years experience as an executive chef from an previous life and created the first menu for Altitude's. Brewpoke was the original brewer....that dude made some great beer. I believe (from my last trip to the area) that they may still have a couple of John's brews still in rotation....he'll let me know if I'm wrong.

Don't hold yourself to just Laramie. Head up to the Snowies and Libby Flats to see some views you may never see again.

Sybille Canyon (US-34) you can generally see some elk near the fence. If you have never seen those up close it will be an awesome experience for you.

You are missing out on the Buckhorn and the bullet hole story, heck get a few bloody's in you morning of game day and do the Buckhorn Roll. If they do Breakfast at the Buck that is a good place to start. Prairie Rose gets PACKED on Sunday's so just be there around opening.

Also just be in any bar downtown on Friday night and the pep band will swing by and fire up the crowd.
 
If you guys have any social media presence send us your X handle and UW is generally really open to getting these types of accounts some behind the scenes access as well.

Drive Wyoming Highway 130 through the snowies (unless there is a blizzard going on). Should see a lot of fall color and probably a little bit of new snow.

If they are flying into Denver they should cut through Highway 210 out of Cheyenne to Laramie to get some good views as well
 
Wyoming Territorial Prison. Only place to hold Butch Cassidy. Walk around campus. It is nice. Coal Creek Coffee. Never gone to Laramie without hitting the Buckhorn and the West Laramie Fly Store. Both are a pilgrimage for me.

Crowbar sucks. Worst experience I have ever had in Laramie last year. Will never go back.

It has changed quite a bit since then. You were correct though, the OG brewer did it right (didn't realize it was our own Brewpoke - did ? Jared ? take over from him)? The beer was outstanding, and cutting edge. Now, Altitude is just very mediocre at best.

Must Do's:

Breakfast Burrito at J's Prairie Rose (downtown)
Bottled Beer at the Buckhorn (never draft, ever)
•If up early, head to Breakfast at the Buck. Great day drinking.
Wings at Wing Shack (17th & Grand) or Double Dub's - Food Truck (JA #17's favorite)
Drive up and walk around Vedawoo (17 miles east of Laramie)
•Take the service road back to Highway 210 from Vedawoo
Drive across the Snowy Range, and then back to Laramie through Encampment
Walk UW's campus, I am biased, but she is a BEAUT!

It is great, you are correct. LOL. That is, if you are going in for a colonoscopy the next day. It will really clean you out. Just don't use the men's room in the Buck, we may never see you again, or you may come down with some new kind of infection not yet recognized by science.

Don't drink to the point you have to use the mens restroom at the Buck. Highly recommend you go to the alley if you need to piss.
