We got jobbed in Wichita. Technical error.

With Wyoming inbounding, the refs call deadball double technicals, one on each team. So theoretically both teams shoot their technical free throws and we pick up where we left off with Wyoming imbounding but NOOOOO....after both teams shoot their free throws they actually fucking gave the ball to the shockers. We shouldve had the ball down 3 with 13.5 seconds left. Pokes got jobbed.

The call was:

Flagrant 1 on Wichita.

Dead ball technical on Wyoming.

The flagrant 1 normally gives 2 FT’s and possession to the opponent. We got the 2 FT’s but because our possession would have resumed play after a dead ball, that’s where the technical becomes the last play.

In this case we lost the possession because on our “possession” we were penalized for the technical foul. The retaliation followed the flagrant 1 with the technical foul which then awarded Wichita 2 free throws and possession.

It was a bit frustrating to see us get as many calls as we did the entire game but we must be doing the fouling to some extent because it’s been that way the entire MWC season.

it's absolute bullshit that we lose possession.

Yeah, that's a bad rule that needs changed. Sounds like the refs got it right based on the current rule though.

However, we lost that game because of poor free throw shooting and bad rebounding. That was really the story all season long. We would do most things pretty well and a couple things very poorly, and those thing would cost us in close games. One night we would be a turnover machine, the next night we would only hit 50% of our free throws, another night we couldn't play team defense to save our lives, some nights we couldn't make buy a three pointer. It just always seemed like there was something that went wrong that was just enough to put us on the losing side of things.

How about Dennis be smart enough not to react to the flagrant foul?! He had two boneheaded plays down the stretch that really cost us. He played great otherwise but those mental mistakes were huge.

The refs weren't great, but the reason we lost this game is because we got our asses kicked in every facet of the game. The fact that it was as close as it was shows how mentally tough this team is. For reference, I think we can all agree that the road game at Utah State was by far the worst showing of the season. Here's a comparison with last night:

@Utah State / @Wichita State
FG%: 35 / 38
Opponent FG%: 55 / 43
3Pt%: 25 / 36
Opponent 3Pt%: 38 / 28
FT%: 67 / 50
Opponent FT%: 71 / 57
Rebounding margin: 0 / -19
Turnovers: 13 / 10

The biggest black eye for this team this year is their inability to win a road game. We played 14 true road games this year. We won 3 (AF, GCU, SJSU). That's a big problem.

Really Grand Canyon was the only tough environment they actually won on the road in. SJSU is almost a neutral site with the lack of intensity and Air Force was just bad. It will be very interesting to see if they can get some of these guys to stick around. There is more money now through the appropriation from the legislature so there really aren't ANY excuses.
