LA Bowl is no more

This will become a trend. I suspect eventually there won’t be many ‘bowls’ but rather a 24 team CFP and some sort of NIT bracket for teams left out.

Much more lucrative for media and local venues to showcase playoff matchups. Not great for the student athlete because it’s more time out of class during fall finals time (but pretty clear college football no longer has anything to do with education).

BTW - this is a good thing and a natural reaction to the market. Notre Dame, Iowa State, Kansas State and others turned down bowl invites this past year. The trend will grow. This resulted in several 5-7 schools playing in bowls. What is the point of watching 5-7 Rice Owls in a bowl?

I don't know why Kansas State refused a bowl , but Iowa State lost about 25 players to the transfer portal. Most of them followed their coach to Penn State.

Too many players not wanting to play in these bowl games so they avoid the risk of injury and hurting their chances in the transfer portal. The teams participating are diluted down. Bowl games do not seem to have the luster they once did.
