We just signed our third.....

I assume Tell Wade and others will be in a similar situation this year. I guess it comes down when does the roster have to be at 105?

Tyler Jacklich was one of those players. Sawvel allowed him to practice and play through the spring scrimmage to get tape. He transferred to San Diego State, or that was planned, and it did not work out. He ended up at JUCO and signed with WVU
If Sawvel allowed a guy to stay with the team during spring practice to help him get film to transfer to a different conference school, then that is another in a long list of mind boggling head coaching decisions supporting the fact that Sawvel has no business being a head coach.

Internet indicates he transferred to a JUCO, played a year of JUCO, transferred to WVU, road the bench and just transferred to SJSU.

I can maybe see a coach letting a walk on stay with the program to try and catch on with a JUCO or something, maybe. Or maybe a team doing that if they need guys to leave to reach the maximum roster size, maybe. But otherwise that is the dumbest shit and is a lawsuit waiting to happen when the player gets hurt and can no longer land a deal anywhere else.

I guess we have different views on it. He was probably 7-8 on the RB depth chart and Wyoming had injuries in spring so gave the young man an olive branch. I don't think he ever ended up on the roster ats SDSU and may have been offered a PWO from them and that may have been before their newest coach as well. He was form Cali and could have wanted to be closer to home.

Didn't workout for him at SDSU as I believe the coaching change happened but that tape could have landed him his role at JUCO where he worked himself into a scholarship at WVU and maybe SJSU like you highlighted.

I used to get mad about interconference transfers but can't really be that way anymore since Wyoming has gone to the CSU well twice. Sawvel extending an olive branch to a young man may pay off in recruiting as well since Tyler could say positive things in Cali and his stops in college. Word of mouth is something we should not neglect either.

Just my thoughts on it

There’s a big difference between keeping a kid on a roster during spring to try and help him sign with a conference opponent and a kid who enters the portal, stops practicing with a team and transfers to a conference rival on their own volition. To my knowledge, CSU didn’t suggest or help their players transfer to Wyoming.

Tell Wade may still on the team to practice this spring and try and earn himself a roster spot. Now if he does not make the roster spot and UNM or CSU sign him are you going to have the same heartache.

Or were you more concerned with Jack already wanting to go to SDSU and remaining on during spring practice?

Both scenarios are likely to continue in CFB in some form or fashion

I’m concerned with foolish head coaching and stupidly exposing the university to needless risk. As soon as a player enters the portal, they should not be practicing with the team period. As soon as they hit the portal, the player is free to sign with any team of their choosing willing to take them.

There might be a slight distinction for walk on players but after this year there will be no such thing as walk on players at the FBS level.
