He could resign and refuse any additional compensation. He could also negotiate a resignation.
I speculate he is determined to succeed and planning to return in 2026. As hard as these past 2 years have been, if he makes big changes to the coaches/players and puts an exciting offense on the field winning 6+ games it could change everything. Odds are unlikely it will happen.
Who knows - maybe an individual with deep pockets who might have been in attendance at the game got really disappointed and has offered to Burman the funds to terminate him leaving resources to make a new hire immediately.
With Burman in charge all bets are off.
