QB Recruiting...

I do think Drube is the most physically gifted QB to come out of a Wyoming high school in a very long time. But there are countless physically talented football players that flame out every single year in college football.

Normally, I'd say we have to trust the coaches since they are the ones that are seeing him day in and day out in practice. They should know better than anyone else whether he is ready to actually contribute on the field or not. However, this staff has proven themselves terrible at judging talent, especially at the QB position.

All that being said, I think there is a very low chance we see Drube this year. If Kaden goes down with an injury, I fully suspect Gage Brooks will be trotted out there.
I agree. We won’t see him and we probably shouldn’t, but the lack of mobility under pressure and constant staring down of receivers is frustrating to watch. The difference that Sims made with his ability to move in that game was apparent, albeit he’s more of a running qb. It’s too bad he was injured. The ability of our staff to develop a qb has me concerned as well, and that’s not new with just Sawvel.

I’ll disagree here. I think Jovon knows that this offense needs the QB run threat. We already saw Jovon have no problem with rotating QBs in and out. I doubt Drube has had any meaningful reps but I suspect he will be getting some this week. I think (and hope), Jovon will mix in some Drube snaps.

Keep in mind, Jovon was a dual threat HS QB.

Looks like Jovon is thinking just like I was…

I didn’t realize Sims was another bad knee recruit. Nothing personal but it’s definitely frustrating to have zero experience depth after 2 guys with bad knees are liabilities running with the ball.

Loved Peasley...tough and had some great moments...that said, he's above the median for sure in terms of college football QB's. I know he never stuck in the NFL but the median college player is not getting UFA interest or playing professionally in any of the non-NFL leagues.
I hated peasley after his first year and would have loved to see him transfer, but he somehow turned it around around in year 2

Drube can play. I’ve watched him play since he was a first grader. I understand sitting him this year and 100% agree with that. The kid has a big arm, can make all the throws and he’s 20 times the athlete Kaden Anderson is. I’d like to see him get some time these last few games. My nephew is the qb at Campbell County this year. He couldn’t see the field behind Drube. He’s got a couple D2 full ride offers so far. He’s 6’2, 195lbs and runs a 4.5 and can play. Drube will be just fine.
I heard a rumor Drube is not happy about not being given the chance to see the field this year. Might be a transfer if he doesn’t get the opportunity to play this year. Can you confirm or deny?

At this point I hope that we have some ex-HS QBs in the wide receiver room who could take some snaps for UW. Drube was a outstanding player at the Wyoming HS level but that does not necessarily correspond with being able to play at the D1 level in college.

Drube may get his wish. He is one injury away from being the starter. It would be nice for JB to give him some snaps and get his feet wet.

I think it corresponds well to substituting Anderson out and running a few read option or ‘wildcat’ plays here and there with 1-2 throws a game. I don’t want Anderson running any read option or RPO. We don’t need to ask Drube to make complex reads and hit a bunch of timing routes.

I think drube is legit. He had tons of D-1 offers. I saw him play once in HS, and, as one would expect from a D-1 QB, just looked different in a good way

This is correct. Drube will have 2-3 plays in a package with 1 read on those plays. I think Ds will automatically respect his run if he comes in. They’ll still hedge to the handoff and he should be able to gain yards with his legs. Then there will be 1-3 chances for him to make the correct read and hit short pass for a td or a 1st down. Frankly I will be really disappointed if he’s not used.

No. I have zero knowledge of that. I will say that the kid graduated early last year to enroll at UW and be there for spring ball. I think he expects to compete.

Drube and Gage Brook listed as ‘or’ on the depth chart for backup QB. We’ve also seen this pattern this year earlier this year at points with freshmen Tote Harris and Deion DeBlanc when they ended up seeing significant action. I expect to see Drube in for at least a few plays Saturday.

I expect to see Drube or Brook in the game , who knows maybe both will get a few plays. Anderson has already shown he cannot be trusted on RPOs or QB runs which Wyoming will need to stay in the game. At times he seems to get confused on what the play call is and does not seem to be able to generate any urgency in getting plays started. Taking time off the clock with sustained drives powered by the running game would seem to be the best way to win this Saturday.
Unless Wyoming gets a much faster start than they have been to take the crowd out of the game, it could be a long night. Fresno State has been averaging about 40,000 in attendance this season .There will be a pretty good crowd this weekend after they beat Boise.

From the little I’ve seen of Brook and his High School stats, no way am I bringing him in to run the ball. He had less than 200 yards total on the ground in his high school career.

I expect to see a very tentative offensive game plan trying to keep Anderson from being exposed. It wouldn’t surprise me to not see any other QB until it’s no longer a game unless Sawful is willing to use every option available to try for the win.

Look for Fresno to bring the heat and keep the box tight to slow the rushing game.

Of course I hope I am completely wrong, but I don’t expect Wyoming to be very competitive in this game. The defense will keep it interesting for awhile but the offense will make sure we don’t compete for our 5th win by playing afraid.

Maybe we get that Bohl 2014 game where Fresno doesn’t show up to play.

I am mentally prepared for Fresno to win by 14+ despite the -3.5 it is today.
