P12 - MWC

It’s Memorial Day weekend and nothing announced.

Besides the loony podcasters who are enamored with the p2 spouting off their usual dribble it was a silent week. The 2 loonies did speculate that the MWC should come out good on the exit fees the poaching fees would be lower. Just for grins they are claiming that they are convinced that the MWC would get at best 25% of the poaching fees and 75% of the exit fees. If their speculation would somehow be correct it would still be good for the MWC at $73.75 million. The minimum to pay for the GOR is $61 million.

The New Mexico media had a story saying it’s eerily quiet as well but they were clearly admitting that there is no way UNM would be considered for any expansion. It was almost like reading a sad obituary.

Oh - the 2 loons also claimed the mediation could continue until July 15 when the current stay expires. They implied the stay supersedes any other contract issues, but I don’t believe that can stop the deadline for the traitors to exit without doubling the fees.

I hope the MWC is going hardcore on getting closer to $100 million than less as that is the number which will leave the MWC members feeling pretty good.

Keep in mind:

Absolute Minimum $61 million
Ideal minimum $79 million
Reward zone $100 million
F the pee12 is anything over $100+ million.

Thanks for these updates and analysis PorkerPoke!

I'm hoping for 100 mill + with no merger.

Life with bsu, suds, csu, osu, and wsu would be awful. I don't think it would be worth it regardless of better overall conference especially at our current level and even more so at our future level after P4 (or whatever) splits.

I totally get you. In the MW, we're a valued original member with a powerful voice in the room.

In nPac? Unless we start winning - and winning big - we're the school out in the middle of nowhere.

Tv money will be the deciding factor in all this, but I think split conferences with MW getting $100M+ is the most likely scenario.

Less than 1 week for the traitors to make their exit official or face double the fees. I found a local Oregon article that was more open about the predicament the future pea12 is in.

I really wonder with the traitors on the sideline how much of a voice they have. They must be squirming as well to keep their pipe dream of becoming the elite western conference.

The article spent its focus on:

If the current pee2 wants to add one more full time member this is the last week to avoid even higher exit fees as all conferences have a 1 year notice requirement which means June. The pea12 has to have the 8th full time member or the whole venture fails to “rebuild”.

The AAC is the most expensive option and the most desirable programs have already said no. The AAC also has the best G5 TV deal which all indicators say won’t be matched or exceeded.

The Sun Belt is the only least expensive exit fee option with Texas State the most desirable but the dirty little secret is the pee2 programs consider Texas State to be like adding one of the lesser MWC teams not named UNLV not much better than UNM.

The article specifically said they didn’t want to be involved with programs like sjsu, Nevada and New Mexico. Coincidentally last week there was a local article bemoaning how messed up things are at UNM.

Buckle up and get ready. The ride could be interesting and I completely expect to hear something by Friday.

Hoping the entire thing falls apart, and those in the ivory tower come to their senses that the best option is to combine teams and go from there. I would love to see the 5 defectors eat a little shit on this, for puffing out their collective chests while proclaiming they are far superior (when everyone knows they certainly are not).

Bad part is, that just isn't what I think will happen, nor is it likely to be within my luck spectrum. I think the leagues will end up splitting, and things will move on accordingly from there.

I think the arrogance of Oregon State and Wazzoo will derail any merger. And at this point, the arrogance has bled over into the traitors. I hope this delusion ruins the pea conference. Gosh, I hope it does! I despise everything about them at this point, including their member schools. Goat U and the Maggie’s are high on that list of those I despise. As high as BYugly, to be honest.

My honest thought is this. Of the two remaining PAC-XX left, Oregon State and Wazzu, The Beavers are the only ones that are arrogant enough to run this colossal mess. Why? OSU is not far from Oregon aka Nike U. OSU is trying to act like they are just as good or better than Nike U. And failing miserably at it I might add.

Wazzu just wants a home. They are far enough from Seattle that the arrogance level is much lower. Had only Wazzu been left, I'm positive Wazzu would've applied for MW membership and none of this would be happening.

If a merger does happen (& it's VERY unlikely at the moment), I'll die laughing at both Smurf State and at SDSU. Every time those two try to leave, they end having to be forced back in the MW. To both schools, the Mountain West is a black hole.

This saga has been fascinating to follow. I'm in a bubble when it comes to this stuff. I hear about things when it gets officially reported and I follow the threads on here because once in a while there is some scuttlebutt that actually clarifies something. The current situation is (seems?) very much a contract dispute....nothing new there right?...they happen all the time. This particular dispute seems to have inflamed passions to a very high degree in a group of people with no affiliation (officially) with the contractually bound parties. I have a question for those following it more closely and those whose passions are so inflamed...

Do other fan bases have the same desire that posters here have to extract their pound of flesh from the "traitors"? Do UNM and Nevada fans, for instance, have the same vitriol?

Why do I, as a lifelong die-hard Cowboy fan, feel terrible about Wyoming's fate in the current college athletic environment but can't muster the hatred that others on here are broadcasting?

Don’t know about Nevada, UNM. Don’t care frankly.

What bothers me most is the deceit. Pac-2 looks for safety by scheduling with the MWC, agrees to a no poaching clause, and later sues to void the restriction. To me, bad faith. I'd be surprised if there wasn't some level of collusion amongst the "traitors" and the Pac-2 from the beginning. It's been hard for me not to feel that MWC got "played" by an unscrupulous Theresa Gould and desperate/angry OSU and WSU but who knows. Maybe Gloria Nevarez did all she could to entertain the Pac-2 and defend against the inevitable. To me, this isn't just about a contract dispute...how many widgets were delivered at what price and on what terms. There is arrogance, deceit, and collusion. There is also the irony of OSU and WSU being screwed by departing members...but caring less about who got screwed as remaining members of the MWC. Hypocrisy 101.

Hate is a strong word. You'll have to ask yourself why it doesn't resonate with you at higher level. But I don't wish a single good thing for programs like CSU, SDSU, BSU, USU, etc. Also, I am a little embarrassed at what the MWC has become (with Gloria Nevarez pretending "this is better!"). I cannot fathom NIU (no disrespect at all) being a MWC team (or Toledo or any other school from the Midwest). I like regional rivalries and many years ago, used to think how cool a conference with Colorado, Nebraska, BYU, Utah and the MWC teams would be (minus Hawaii due to travel). That ain't going to happen.

To answer your question, maybe the "hatred" and "vitriol" that people feel is a sense that something important to them is dying right before their eyes. All of college sports pretty much sucks. Maybe it already died for you and you just don't realize it.

In any case, screw CSU all day long.

Thank you for this response...and well said. Your last paragraph and bolded section resonates with me immensely.

Sports fan-dom is a weird little phenomenon. When done well, it brings communities together that may not have a lot else going on. People can even make money administering and running those organizations (NCAA, College Conferences, Pro leagues) without totally obliterating what makes it special. Something about that naked pursuit of profits has spoiled things for me though.

I think, in the main, that the naked pursuit of profits is more responsible for what is going on than the moral qualities of the folks in charge of OSU or CSU or whoever else....it's a very deranging force.

Hang in there...it won't be this way forever. Eventually, things will get reined in. Humans have a weird tendency to overcompensate with changes when a problem is identified.

Problem: Police sometimes abuse their right to use of force
Solution: Abolish police departments

Problem: Some patients in state/federal mental health institutions are being treated poorly
Solution: Defund mental health care and shut down government funded mental health hospitals

Problem: College athlete's are being exploited for the profits of others
Solution: Get rid of nearly all restrictions pertaining to college athletes

Of course, all of these solutions are heavy handed and lead to a lot of negative unintended consequences. Once it becomes clear to us that we've overcompensated in the opposite direction, we eventually move back towards the original scenario and land somewhere in the middle. This will happen with college sports too.

This is so well written and thought out. These are my feelings 💯. I don’t have hatred, but I strongly dislike.
