Via UW Athletics LARAMIE, Wyoming (9/17/24) – No team has been as impressive through two weeks of the National Football League season as New Orleans. The Saints are 2-0, having outscored their opponents 91-29, and a former University of Wyoming football player is a big reason for that success. Carl Granderson has accumulated eight tackles with 1.5 sacks, one tackle for loss and two quarterback hits from his defensive end position. New Orleans went into Dallas and throttled the Cowboys, 44-19, on Sunday and Granderson had five tackles, 1.5 sacks, one tackle for loss, and a pair of quarterback hits. The Saints host Philadelphia in Week 3. Below is a list of the other former Wyoming student-athletes and how they did in Week 2. Josh...
This is from UW Athletics and Ryan Thorburn's interview with Tom Burman LARAMIE – Ryan Thorburn sat down with Wyoming athletics director Tom Burman on Friday to discuss the latest round of conference realignment, which will have a direct impact on the Pokes and the Mountain West. Here’s the transcript of the conversation: Thorburn: What is your reaction to Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State and San Diego State leaving the Mountain West to join the Pac-12 in July of 2026? Burman: Well, no doubt disappointed just like our fan base. We’ve had, especially with Colorado State, one of the great rivalries in college sports and to see them leave to go to a different league, (I feel) disappointment but I wouldn’t say complete shock. I...
WyoNation Bracketology: Week 2
Northern Illinois upset of Notre Dame sent shockwaves through the playoff picture this past weekend. The Huskies went from MAC obscurity to launching themselves squarely into the playoff picture and launching Notre Dame into the trash heap with Florida State. The Huskies blocked a 62 yard field goal attempt by the Irish with no time remaining to pull off the shocker in South Bend. AND got $1.2 million dollars for it! As Jon Rothstein would say, "the epitome of brutality." Indeed. This week also saw Boise State play the plucky underdog and give Oregon a lot more than they wanted. As a result Oregon probably slid in the bracket a bit. Ashton Jeanty is proving to be a hot commodity as a running back for the Broncos and will keep them in...
- UW Press Release - LARAMIE, Wyoming (9/10/24) – The National Football League season got underway this past week. Plenty of former University of Wyoming football players made an impact for their respective professional organizations. Josh Allen led the way for the former Cowboys. He helped the Buffalo Bills rally from a two-score deficit to a 34-28 victory over Arizona. Allen was ultra efficient. He finished the game 18-for-23 for 232 yards and two touchdowns. He added 39 yards on nine carries and another two scores. Below is a list of the other former Wyoming student-athletes and how they did in Week 1. Carl Granderson, New Orleans Saints Granderson and the Saints destroyed Carolina on Sunday. He made three tackles from his...
WyoNation Bracketology: Week 1
Running late this week.. turns out the recovery time from Vegas when you're in your 40s is much greater than in your 20s and 30s. Regardless, had a great time at a concert, a couple shows, and just being around Las Vegas. However.... ...I'm now sick. God damnit. But! It's time for some bracketology. A couple of revisions from the last bracket due to an administrative error, but that's fixed. Florida State took another L on the chin, and they took an L on my bracket. At this point I think it's safe to say they're probably not going to be making a return. Everyone else basically took care of business the way they should have. I imagine I'll get some flack for having Notre Dame too low (play in a real conference, losers), and that's...
LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 4, 2024) – As of Wednesday afternoon, Saturday's contest against Idaho is trending to be a sellout. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets as soon as possible to ensure a seat for the 400th game in War Memorial Stadium history. The contest is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start. University of Wyoming Athletics looks forward to another exciting and successful season. First Aid stations are in the upper east side and the Arena-Auditorium Concourse. We want all Cowboy football fans to have an enjoyable experience inside War Memorial Stadium, while providing for a friendly and safe environment for fans of all ages. Wyoming Fans - UW may remove any person for disorderly behavior, speech or actions which interfere with the...
WyoNation Bracketology: Preseason
College football season has returned to Wyoming and the Mountain West and with that we’re going to debut a new blog on WyoNation.com this season. We’re going to be doing some weekly bracketology for the new, revamped 12 team playoff. This is my purely uneducated guess at how things are shaping up for the playoff, who’s on top, who’s on the bubble, and probably a lot of things that will make you angry. I will preface this blog with this is my week 0/preseason guess. I realize that by the time this blog posts Florida State has already lost to Georgia Tech in an absolute banger in Ireland and they will likely not be in this playoff bracket after week one games are done. For this pre-season exercise they are in the number ten slot and in...
