Does anybody see a young player or incoming freshman that is going to make a BIG impact next year? If so what player(s) and why? Im just curious of everybody's opinion. I know some about the incoming class but not a lot. Who could the starting 5 be? We know Adams for sure and probably Herndon... Mcmannamen?? Washington...?? Thanks!!! Gooooo Poookes

To be 100 honest, I see Justin James and Austin Conway playing significant time next season. My starting 5 for next season is:

Adams
Conway
Lieberman/Washington
McManimal
Herndon

Next 5:
Aka Gorski
Lieberman/Washington
Barnes
James
Marshall

The Rest/Redshirts:
Naughton
Williams
Moemeka

Way too small. I think we go

Conway / Adams / Marshall / Herndon / Barnes

See it looks really hard to project at this point ... But I hope 1 or 2 of these guys really steps up. I believe they will. Marshall or James would be a nice 3 and Herndon at the 4 but the 5 is a big question unless Barnes can really step up?? ..

One think I like is that the roster seems to be shifting to more perimeter players, which should better suit Shyatt's offensive system.

I think if they are hungry enough Austin Conway and Justin James could be all-times. Heard it here first!

Very tough at this point, but I'll go with this:

Adams
Herndon
McM
Barnes
Gorski

Washington, Marshall, James, Lieberman, Williams getting the remaining minutes

redshirt:

Conway (only because there are three guys in front of him....Adams, Washington, and Lieberman).
Naughton
Momeka

I agree. I think they have some impact next season and really take over after Josh Adams graduates (which will be a sad day for Poke fans)

It's way too early for this but here is a guess at what we might see next year.

STARTING
C- Barnes
F- Herndon
G- McManemen
G- Adams
G- Conway

ROTATION
F- Williams
G/F- Gorski
G- Washington
G- Marshall

BENCHWARMER/REDSHIRT
F- Naughton
F- Moemeka
G- Lierberman
G- James

Herndon and of course Adams are locks, everything else is fluid. Barnes and Williams will battle it out for the starting spot opposite Herndon, the loser will be the 3rd big. Naughton or Moemeka could force their way in to the rotation or both could end up redshirting.

Guard is hard to predict bc it depends on what we do with Adams. He's going to the MAN for us next year and with Grabau gone I could see Adams being a full time point. If that's the case, then perhaps two of Gorski, McManamen, and Marshall start. But we have a plethora of PG options in Washington, Lieberman, and Conway who could fill the void at PG. It's tough to say right now.

In terms of incoming class, definitely expect more of an impact from the perimeter guys (James, Conway, Marshall) than the bigs (Moemeka, Naughton) who I expect to redshirt or play sparingly. Not unusual as it is difficult to find HS bigs that can contribute right away.

In terms of young players currently on the roster, I look for a really big jump in Herndon's game and an impact from Trey Washington. Herndon just needs a few months of good health, eating, and weight training to be an impact player.

The rotation is really up in the air going into next year. We have a lot of small guards on the roster, how small is Shy willing to play? History tells us that he has no problem going small. Pair Adams with either Washington or Conway in the backcourt and James on the wing and we could really get out in transition.

That's what I'm expecting. I think early in the season, Wyoming will go with a veteran roster, but by the end of the year they'll realize their best chance of winning is with Conway, Adams, James and a couple of bigs on the floor.

I'm just not sure who's going to step up in the other rolls yet.

Is James really that good?

Also, I just saw that Conway got an offer from Indiana. Wow.[/quote]

Short answer is yes!

He received player of the year in Florida in his classification over a bunch of top 100 recruits nationally going to SEC and ACC schools.

I don't see Adams being a full time PG . Josh will end his career as an all time great and the last 3 games he played might be the most spectacular run in 3 days a wyoming player has ever played. That being said I think he's still too careless with the ball to be a full time PG. He thrives playing off the ball moving around and that fits his game much better. I see PG if we have a true one, being filled by some combination of Lieberman and Washington. Conway may play his way into the rotation but I don't think Shyatt usually trusts freshman enough for them to play big minutes.

Agreed +1000

I think he will be the 2 and some combo of Lieberman/Washington/Conway/Marshall will run the point

I think what I'm most excited about with having James is his size. He is 6'7. This season, our tallest perimeter player is 6'5". Against teams like SDSU that can create favorable mismatches for the other team.

Not only are we getting taller/bigger players, but we're adding more backcourt athleticism. Replacing Grabau, Bentz and Hankerson with Conway, Marshall and James is a definite plus in that category.

I don't think Barnes will be ready to play starter minutes next year with how raw he is. I think the team will play a lot of 2-3 matchup zone with this lineup to start the year. I really like this lineup because it will really space the floor for Josh to attack the basket and kick out to a bunch of guys who can knock down outside shots.

G- Washington, Lieberman
G- Adams, Marshall
G/F- McManamen, James
G/F- Aka Gorski
F/C- Herndon, Barnes

I'm not willing to put Williams on any list until I know he will actually be here next year. His distance from the team for academic reasons is concerning to me.
