You want change? You want pressure on WYO administration?

Then tell me where the press is that covers this school's football team?

You may peruse myriad newspapers across the country who cover other programs -- many of them with reporters and or columnists who will write feature stories after numerous losses and debacles pointing out flaws or expressing contempt or disgust with what they have witnessed on the field of play.

Often times these stories reflect the heartbeat of the fan base -- with writers who have their finger firmly on the pulse of the situation...many of these other institutions insist on a level of performance that is acceptable, often times because they know that anything less is to be skewered happily in the newspapers the following day.

How nice it must be to be the WYO athletic department and never have to deal with real criticism in the newspapers...talk about a cozy daily existence with no fear of being called out for lack of performance on multiple levels?

The critical thinking on behalf of a host of individuals here on this site far-far exceeds that of the newspapers in our state who ask you and I to subscribe to their offerings (and I am a subscriber) each and every day -- as a member of the media I find this incredibly pathetic.

When Wyoming football has more of a concern with what is written on a message board than what is written by those around the program and covering the team on a regular basis...then is there really anything for them to worry about?

Objectively now...has this season been placed within its proper context by the Casper Star-Tribune or the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle even a single time this season after a single game...or after the debacle in Fresno last night?

Easy come...easy go.

We all deserve more.

I read about KU , K-State and OU all the time down here. And they try not to show any negativity. And that is saying a lot with how abysmal KU has been lately.

You obviously do not read the papers in your area my friend: http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2012/oct/20/column-its-time-charlie-weis-move-dayne-crist/?sports" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In addition I guess you were not privy to the pretty recent Charlie Weiss blowup from the KU student newspaper either?
http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon/2012/10/04/charlie-weis-upset-student-newspaper/1613779/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And this too? http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/eye-on-college-football/20539249/kansas-student-reporter-warned-before-weis-press-conference" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, I am not looking at a writer or a commentator to be critical just for the sake of doing so -- what sense is there in that?

However, if nary a writer or commentator on the Pokes beat cannot find a critical edge for not only the game yesterday, but the trainwreck of a season that has unfolded with all that has gone on thus far...then when could they be critical?

On second thought, even though I disagree with the CST 'editorial', I salute them for saying something with an opinion behind it.

Everyone else lives in Pleasantville, I guess.

If you're talking about on line crap fine, I don't care. I was talking about newspapers. And who the hell reads campus newspapers and takes their opinion?

Obviously the Kansas head football coach, Charlie Weiss.

I gotta be honest, an article is fine. Having a picture on the cover of your rival demeaning you... not so much.

The bottom line in all of this and my point is -- can we all agree that in terms of real & legitimate criticism from those paid to cover this team it is no place to be found?

That if anyone is looking for an honest and non-bullshit observation of the WYO football program, that the last place you will find it is in the CST o the WTE?

I wish this was not the case -- but who can dispute that it is?

Apparently all you have to do is go on line just like KU and there it all is. The only newspaper was the student paper. Which, like I said, I wouldn't agree with the cover being flaunted all over campus either. The main Kansas papers do not say anything negative, so why should the Casper or the other one? We apparently have enough negativity right here and on others blogs.

Doc,
You are right on the money. Until someone puts pressure on the UWYO administration to provide a better product they won't. It is futile to look to the press. The Casper Star and the Tribune Eagle have been hopelessly inept for some time.

The pressure has to come from the Legislature, from the Cowboy Joe Club. Unfortuately, Burman is a good old boy with Wyoming roots, so we have to watch while the whole damn thing spins inexorably downward.

Part of his quote last week was especially telling: "sometimes we are what we are"-

absolutely no vision, no passion for excellence, no drive to excel....nothing to work with there...

I dont know what it will take to get the admin at UWYO to wake up, but I think a good start can be made by immediately cutting off any state funding for the UW Athletic Department until there is some kind of acceptable path forward that is approved by the Legislature and published throughout the state

Burman is not the entire problem, but is certainly the nexus of many issues. It is time for UW to begin anew

Getting UW to wake up will require a president that is after more than mediocrity and willing to risk " popularity " by hiring an AD that is NOT Wyoming affiliated. The main reason I say this is someone who has grown up and lives in Wyoming still they seem to accept the way things are.

We need a visionary we need someone that didn't come from Wyoming but wants to put Wyoming on the athletic road map. I hate to say it but very few people that live in the state of Wyoming have that vision. We need a new President that wants to eliminate Wyoming obscurity in Athletics and until we get one nothing will ever change.

I think the biggest issue with the newspapers is that they are threatened to have their access to the program cut off if they write anything critical. I don't agree with everything that the Star-Tribune editorial said last week, but it is their right to say it. I do, however, have a problem with the author of said editorial hiding behind "Editorial Staff" when he/she wrote the article.

I would wager that if the University tried to cut the press off there would be a pretty big uprising against it. Speak your mind, beat writers, and don't hide behind pen names or titles. If UW has a problem with it I'm sure the fan base will back you up!

Amen to you my Wyoming brother!

Here is a clear example of what I'm talking about.

Instead of the WTE and the CST just 'reporting' what has happened with this DC situation - how about a ballsy column stating what YOU believe SHOULD happen as a result?

Good luck with that one.
