Wyoming's youth and experience produces concern, excitement

Wyoming coach Craig Bohl said Monday during his weekly press conference that he plans to play 14 of his 45 true freshman on Saturday against North Dakota.

Now, keep in mind that the Cowboys roster includes just eight seniors — the second-fewest among FBS teams, only behind Wake Forest’s six.

UW coaches say the disparity between youth and experience is cause for both concern and excitement.

“I think it’s an indication of a more mature recruiting class and more recruiting efforts,” Bohl said. “There’s opportunities there when you have a small senior class like that, that’s going to filter down through your football team. We’re excited about these freshmen.”

Added secondary coach Curt Mallory: “I’m excited about the future. I’m excited about the way these kids have grown and will grow, the way they’ve approached every day and have continued to get better. There’s still a ways to go, but I’m excited about what’s to come.”
