Wyoming's Next Coach Sould Be a Young Up and Comer

I have come to the realization that all these years Wyo has gone about the FB coaching position all wrong. We keep looking for a guy who will come in here win games and stay for a good long while. Well that isn't ever going to happen folks, so our only choice is to target a young up and coming coach? Sure a coach like this may only stick around for 2-3 years but chances are we will win some games. That's a heck of a lot better than waiting around getting only one or two good seasons every ten years.

Dan Mullen for HC at UW period.

young up and comer - old fart - middle aged guy

That doesn't matter.

1) recruiting
2) sound defensive strategy
3) offensive ingenuity

Kahuna...couldn't agree more. I would reverse the order though, and start out with offensive ingenuity...that always seems to start the winning ways (see Urban Meyer - Bowling Green, Utah).

Bobby Kennedy would be worth a look. Wr coach for Texas, coached wr here around 93 & 94, has had coaching gigs at Washington, Arizona, Wake Forest, Wyoming, Illinois and Grad assistant for Joe Pa.

I agree with KahunaPoke... old or young, we just need the best coach available, I have converted and no longer care if it is a short term hired gun, we can rehire every 2 yrs as far as I'm concerned as long as we get the best available and start to build a winning tradition, eventually someone will figure we have a good thing going and will stay, but it all starts with winning games, Calhoun can win with his talent, we should be able to win with ours.

When Dimel was promoted to HC here wasn't he the youngest coach in D1? He did pretty well until he decided to leave for Houston and just ruin that program. I'd assume the only reason he did well here is that he inherited Tillers players...

Nobody surrounding the UW program ever seems to mention Dimel much, I find that rather odd.

I think it is because Dimel is the missing link between the Tiller and Vic years. Dimel did ok with Tiller's recruits but left Vic a mess. Ask around Laramie, it is a small town and you will find there is a general lack of respect for Dimel, as much for off the field as on it.

He wanted to go to Houston because there were so many recruits in the area, well, he didn't do much there glad he moved on in hind sight.

I do know he cheated on his wife, who was still in Manhatten, KS, with a local bar waitress back in the Summer of 1997. The university almost fired him before he even coached his game as UW's HC.

I found out about it years later on GWG!
