I posted this last night, just now getting it onto the board.

Being one fan that thought we would get slaughtered, I was pleased that didn't happen (and far from it) - although I am not sure that WSU is all that good of a team. Not pleased with the outcome certainly, but the team showed more promise in the WSU game versus either of the first 2 at home. It is kind of puzzling how different we looked from week 2 to week 3.

Agreed. I am not saying WSU is a world beater by any stretch, but I am still in the camp thinking we should schedule up and not schedule down. I think playing teams like EMU and ND are no win games. You win = no respect for beating a crappy team...you lose, it looks horrific. I realize we are in no situation to say we are "scheduling down" when we are so poor ourselves, but...on paper, EMU and ND was scheduling down.

Some on here say they would rather not play body-bag games like Oregon or Nebraska. I disagree to an extent. Seems like the Pokes get up for games like that. I think they see EMU and ND on schedule and snooze through it. You see ANY school for a P5 and it is a big game. I think teams like WSU are a perfect scheduling opponent for the Pokes. Lower of the pack P5 schools are where we should be. The WSU score was not indicative of how close I felt the game was. The Pokes had their shots and we aren't quite there to pull these wins out.

I am actually shocked at the defensive improvement. Love Andrew W. He encapsulates the kind of kid we need to recruit and develop.

The Priester hit was a travesty. I am assuming it was Pac 12 refs. Horrible horrible call. If that would have been a WSU player, I would feel the same. Players should not be kicked out for that. I love the physicality of that play.

Overall, I enjoyed watching the game. Brian Hill is the future of this team. Delayed handoffs on short yardage plays don't work. Give him the ball on the run and he will grind out yards with anyone in the country.

The young Pokes are learning the system, how to play at this level, and getting valuable experience. The old Pokes are learning that if they don't get the job done, they will get replaced with the younger Pokes.

I am on the same page. Our OOC opponents should be more like 2014 than 2015. An ideal schedule of course (again only in my opinion) would be 2 or 3 P5 teams, and 1 or 2 upper end G5 teams (Houston types).

I'm happy with us playing NIU and Nebraska next season and Oregon and Iowa the season after. Hopefully we've improved enough to take care of Eastern Michigan next season too.

When did we schedule any of the Kansas teams last? Seems like they'd be solid additions, no?

KU would be like going against EMU. Although they are P5, their football program is like a lower tier G5 team, and it really wouldn't prove much after a win and a loss would still be bad. KSU would be the one to try and get.

Well, if we scheduled KU they'd have like 3-4 years to improve, no? It seems you have to be REALLY bad to be one of the bottom 5 FBS teams if you're P5, as you should be able to get at least power-tier P5 recruits still. They had 9 3-star recruits in 2015, which is still more than we ever have.

And P5 is P5, even if just in name. :)

This week could be very telling. Coming off of the first away game, competing in front of decent sized crowd in a P5 conf.

Although very cliché, the season starts this week. A conf game, at home, as underdogs, to a historical MWC cellar dweller.

Here is to hoping the D continues to improve. By default of where I live, I see, read and hear a lot about Utah, BYU and USU. All three offenses are less than awesome. All three of their defenses are solid, and as a result, they are in most games. I am not worried about our O. I think our D play will determine outcomes of games heading into conf play.

And I agree...any P5 school is better than EMU and ND.
