Wyoming vs. Texas State

Okay.......Wyoming barely squeaks by Weber State.....and Texas State gets destroyed by Texas Tech. They did, however, lead at halftime 10-9. What do you all think? Are the future WAC Bobcats a threat to win in Laramie next week?

Texas State has a lot of that valuable Texas talent and speed.. I have no reason to think that they've got some talent on that team that's FBS ready in preparation for their move to the WAC. I saw them play in Missoula two or three years ago.. they didn't handle the elements of Montana very well, and put up a nice fight in the first half but melted down in the 2nd half. They were a fast team.. I expect much of the same this weekend in Laramie. Southland Conference teams don't typically do well outside of their geographic area, so I imagine playing at 7200 feet will probably affect them. That said they're a very up and down team, good team one year, bad team the next.. I hope we catch them in a down year.

I don't know about TSU.....but I saw that UTSA, another new WAC team, had 56K show up for their first home game!!!! Didn't see that one coming......

I've been saying it for a while.. UTSA is going to be a good team with a lot of potential.. great city for football, great place to play, team with a "name" coach.. lots of potential.

Wonder if they get involved with any of this realignment stuff......

Big12 will need to make a splash if Oklahoma leaves and takes OSU with them.. if Texas stays I don't think adding a transitioning D1 start-up will save the Big12. I think UTSA keeps on w/ the WAC.

Prior to the season, the Texas State game was the FCS game that concerned me the most. They have more talent and speed than Weber State. I suspect this will be another close game with a slightly lower final score. Texas State's offense isn't as explosive as Weber State, but their defense is far better than what we faced in week 1.

What's interesting is that this game doesn't really matter, oher than for pride. We already have our one FCS win that will count toward eligibility, so winning against Texas State is of no help as far as becoming bowl eligible. Personally, I don't think we will even sniff bowl eligibility this year.

Is that why they had 52 scored on them the other day and gave up 505 yards?

Our defense is actually quite effective. We were playing Texas Tech and they will score on anybody. If you look at Tech you will find that nobody will hold them to 9 for a half (we did). I am not saying we are the greatest defense ever but do not underestimate State's ability to shut down the run. They completely wore us out in the second half. Our linebackers are flat out good. I honestly believe that we have one of the better groups of linebackers in the State. Our secondary is not as bad as it looked in this game. They were throwing over the top to a 6'4" receiver over a 5'10 corner for more than half of their passing yards.

Our offense on the other hand is a work in progress. Rutherford (quarterback) is a real issue for any team to face. He is quick and has amazing field vision. Arndt (quarterback) is actually the better quarterback but is more of a prototypical quarterback. He is a great arm and very good accuracy. The coaches have not settled on a quarterback yet. This didn't seem like it would be an issue coming into the season but Rutherford has shown that he belongs. Our running game is quite good and you will see that, especially with Marcus Curry in the game. He is outstanding. Either way, the 50 we gave up to Tech should not make you think that our defense is lacking.

i suggest you look at the game quarter by quarter rather than just the final score.

It appears that the once pretty good BobcatReport has sold out to Rivals and now you can't read any threads unless you're a member.

hey tw_fatcat, what happened to BobcatReport.com? Did it go belly up or what?
Not at all, Bobcatreport just joined up with a Rivals a few weeks back. There are still free sections on bobcatreport. Rivals gave them access to information they would not have gotten before and to do that you sign a contract saying there will be so much info for pay only (warroom) but come on over and go into bobcat sports section. Most members stay active in both sections.

Typically, improvements are made from game 1 to game 2. If Wyoming can't open a can of whoop a$$ on TSU, it could be a very long season.

Where was this comment with all your other posts since the game. this doesn't sound like anything else you've thrown out there.
