Wyoming vs Marshall Thread

Just not good enough defense on the interior down the stretch. They kept getting offensive rebounds and tip ins or put back dunks.

Josh can't do it all but he sure is giving it a hell of an effort.

Yeah. With like 12 minutes left in the game they said he had 9 rebounds. Not sure if he ever got another one or not.

Adams isn't going to be able to carry the team with 30-40 points every game someone other than Mac is going to have to step up and start scoring some points.

Played like a young team today. Made nobodys look like all stars. Going to be a roller coaster year. Just hope they can turn it around for the next one.

Roller coaster is right. It's frustrating.

Tough game, Adams keeps on steamrolling but can't do it alone. Seemed like we just couldn't get stops when we needed/rebounds when we needed. That Kelly fellow matched Adams punch for punch, and we had slightly less firepower than they did tonight.

With a really young squad, you just have to enjoy the ride - all of the ups and all of the downs. I don't think this year's team will win over 14 games, just too inconsistent. It's a rebuilding year. I'm just enjoying Adams last year as a Poke, we are really lucky to have someone with that kind of talent.

James only played 20 min?? wtf? Shyatt must not like to win

Well not to question Shyatt too much but some of the substitutions and people who get minutes seem weird. James only 20 minutes then some others get a lot more time than they should and I won't name names. Still no Marshall.

Then our big guys.... Barnes 4 points, Herndon 2 points, Dalton 0 points. Naughton didn't even play at all.

Adams finals stats according to Kevin were 37 points 10 rebounds 3 assists 1 block. He said he had 9 turnovers I thought also but not sure if maybe i heard him wrong. That is a lot of turnovers in one game for one person. Maybe he said 5 turnovers. Doesn't matter he can't do it all by himself. Good game Josh!

It was 9, but he obviously isn't getting any help.

Not being able to watch the game, it's hard to really say much about it, but I don't understand why James only got 20 minutes. He should start and play 30+ min. There is never any reason for Dalton to be in the game (if we get in foul trouble, play small) and I think you have to try Naughton once in a while when we are getting killed in the paint. Naughton isn't ready yet and you can tell, but you have to try something and at least with Naughton we are building for the future.

The story of this season is the missing sophomore class. Washington/Lieberman/Herndon/Gorski/Barnes/Dalton. You can't have a class that big with so little production. Stats tonight by class:

Seniors: 37 points, 10 reb, 3 assists in 38 minutes. 11-19 FG, 7-11 3 PT, 8-9 FT. (1 player)
Juniors: 18 points, 2 reb, 2 assists in 35 minutes. 5-15 FG, 3-9 3 PT, 5-5 FT. (1 player, Marshall didn't play)
Sophomores: 17 points, 16 reb, 7 assists, in 107 minutes. 6-14 FG, 2-9 3 PT, 3-5 FT (6 players)
Freshmen: 10 points, 0 reb, 1 assist in 20 minutes. 4-8 FG, 0-2 3 PT, 2-2 FT. (1 player, Naughton didn't play, 4 others redshirting)

JMac outscored the entire sophomore class. 6 players that combined to play over 105 minutes and produced so little. Of course, that really understates the negative impact the sophomore class had in this game, because the rebounding deficiency is primarily a product of our weak sophomore front court.

You can't be this far into your tenure and fail a complete class like that if you are trying to build through HS players like Shyatt is (I understand these guys didn't all sign at the same time, some are 3rd year guys with a redshirt and one is a JC transfer). If you go the Eustachy route, you can just boot everyone and bring in a fresh class of JC's and transfers but that hasn't been Shyatt's M.O.

I am very discouraged. I have always been worried about the poor recruiting, but hopeful that player development and quality game coaching would be able to overcome. That just isn't happening in the front court right now.

I really feel like the play of Herndon is key to our success this year. So far in games we have won, he is shooting 65% from the floor averaging just over 9 ppg. In games we've lost he has shot just 30% and averaging 4 ppg. I really expected more from him this year especially because we knew coming in that he was going to have to fill a large role with this team. At 6'9" with his ability to shoot, put the ball on the floor, and create, there is no reason he shouldn't be averaging somewhere around 12-14 ppg at least. I don't expect him to be a beast down low or gobble up every rebound that comes his way, but with his ability he should be able to stretch defenses and create problems for opposing bigs with his quickness.

Adams is having a season for the ages undoubtedly and Jmac also having a pretty nice year as well. JJ showing that as his career progresses he's gonna be our go to player once Josh is gone. That being said, I think our X factor for this season has to be Herndon. With his ability, he should be our 2nd best player, but he doesn't seem to play with the same fire that Josh and Jmac do. McManamen in my opinion is a classic example of a player who plays possibly even beyond what his ability level would allow simply in effort, mindset, and passion. If that attitude that Josh and Jmac carry would rub off on Herndon he'd be a heck of a player........

Agree, Farmer. When our best scorer, rebounder, shot blocker, defender over 6' 6'' is a true freshmen guard you know you're going to struggle. Herndon and Barns must pick it up. We are getting demolished inside and on the boards. TWIII plays defense well and rebounds well for his size, but when you're a pg you must shoot and create, but he's not doing either at the moment. We need some big athletes. Hopefully Moemeka and Naughton can be what we need in the future.

Was a dissapointing game. Hard to make much of it without seeing the game and being forced to listen. It seemed like esspecially early they couldn't miss. And when you go down and jack up shots it makes it hard to beat you if those jacked up shots are falling. But we kept it close and fought with them then towards the end we gave up too many second chance points and easy buckets. Everytime we pulled within one we gave up a big play.
Sounds like Marshall is better then their record as they have won 4 of their last 5. Still a game we should have won. Like Ive said all year...a rollercoaster.
Adams was amazing again but the thing that really makes me love him is the fact that after the game he took the blame for the loss because he had 9 turnovers even with his 37 points and 10 boards.
