Wyoming vs Air Force

Great game. It was great to see Aka bounce back after a few rough games returning after his concussion. I think he can be very valuable to this team. Not the most athletic but can shoot has good size and smarts. Is always in the right position it seems. Can still egt beat on defense athletically but not because of mental lapses very often.
Great to see Momeka play well too. Another piece of the puzzle.

I have no problem with the rotation and Dalton and James not getting in for 7 minutes at half this game. It is not like we were struggling without them in there. It is a long season and we have great depth and other players that need time. If we were struggling to score without them in then the should and I imagine would have came in sooner but lets save legs and use our depth.

There were some great dunks that game! Moemeka played great! He's obviously willing to hustle and play d like a madman. With his emergence I think we should be able to keep one true big man (Moemeka, Naughton) on the court at all times.

I could do without ever seeing Kelly and Lieberman. Gorski occasionally has a good game like tonight so I'm fine with him. We are really, really deep. We have a ton of good players that need minutes.
How these two sniff even close to the same minutes as JJ is beyond me. Seriously, last night, Liebs and Kelley split the first 7 minutes of the second half before JJ replaced them. WTF? There is no plausible scenario where these two provide a better matchup than JJ. Its crazy. I understand before conference wanting to get guys time and experience but conference your best lineups have to be on the floor at all times. Kelley (especially) and Liebs are not part of the best lineups. JJ running the point is optimal.

They just don't belong on the court more than 2-3 min per game.

You guys need to calm down. We were up 28 against the "highest scoring" team in the conference. Just relax and let that sink in. Sure we could have won by more. Sure James and Dalton could have gotten more minutes, but the refs were terrible and Dalton would have fouled out.

This is the most fun I've had watching Cowboys basketball in forever. They can play "terrible" and you look up at the scoreboard and they are up 15. It's crazy. Just take a deep breath and let the fun happen.

I actually don't have a problem with Kelley playing. He had a couple of nice passes for assists last night and hit a couple of 3 balls. He had one bad turnover but other than that he played well.

Everyone might as well get used to Dalton and James coming off the bench the rest of the year. That is how he has this team set up. Which I actually don't mind anymore because of the depth we have.

We have easily the best bench in the conference and no one is even close to us. We have to have one of the top 10 benches in the country. Our bench is overall better than our starters but the starters aren't bad. This team hasn't reached it's potential yet. They can still cut down on turnovers and it seems like they are starting to come together and figure out the faster pace of play.

Next year everyone of these guys is back but JMAC. We are going to be loaded and I think a top 25 team pre-season next year. Damn this team has me excited.

:thumb: But man, if we lose a game where James or Dalton sit for 6 min strait at any point I'll be pissed.

Haha I can understand that sentiment for sure!! That being said if the pokes keep winning with their current rotations, I will keep my mouth shut :D When was the last time we dominated air force like that?

Losing J-Mac but getting Mack, Thompson and Maldonado. When was the last time the future for pokes football and basketball was this good?

Is it just me or does Herndon look like a capable defender?

Against Air Force he can with his length. Not sure he will look so capable against more normal MW athletes. Case in point him grabbing I think a total of 3 rebounds in 30 minutes against USC.

Last time was the late 80's when Dembo and Leckner ruled the hard court and the football team was winning the conference.

Last time I was this excited for the basketball team was when we had Dembo and Leckner. I actually think this team can end up better than the team 2 years ago with Nance and Josh and also be better than the Marcus Bailey teams. The teams with Bailey and Davis didn't have me as excited as this team does just because of the "potential" that this team could have.

I haven't seen a team this deep at Wyoming since back when Dembo and Leckner played. The key word here is "potential".... if they keep gellin I think they can have something really really cookin for next year and still end up with a big surprise year this year. I think we have a legit shot to win the conference. Something about this team just feels like it is starting to come together and yet it still hasn't got to as good as it will be in the next month or so.

I guess thats my point. Its easy to sit these guys and get them rest when were up 30. What happens when were deep in conference and we need JJ and Dalton to play 35+ minutes? They won't have the juice for it. I hope I am wrong, but I don't like inferior players taking time from the two best on the team. Fine, they are coming off the bench, get them in the game first whistle.

1941?

I'm watching the replay and LOVING this. UW should always blister Air Force like that imo. Wish we could've stepped on the gas more till the end. Let's also keep in mind the Pokes did this without Adams. What I really like about this team is that we have a legit 6 guys that can drive the team any game. McMan, Herndon, JJ, Dalton, Gorski, and Adams can all score double digits if they are on. This leaves a lot of talent to fill out roles Naughton, Moemeka, Liebs, Kelly, and JB. The "peak" for some of those guys might grow as this season progresses. I know you guys have problems with Liebs and Kelly but I'm still a believer that they'll have some positive moments ahead.

LOVED how Moemeka played that game. It's exactly what I wanted out of him heading into this season. Power stick backs, aggressive/strong presence in the key, DUNKS  and running the court. How about all our BIGS??? We have Dalton, Naughton, Herndon, Moemeka, and JB at our disposal. That's most loaded front court UW has seen since that Davis/Bailey squad. I expect this team to play for the conference title this year.

Moemeka reminds so much of Derek Cooke but seems further in his development than Cooke did when he arrived. That kid could end up being the steal of that class. He looked really good last night. Granted he only had dunks but he played well on the D side and had some great help side D and a couple blocks and some HUGE rebounds. His future is super bright!

Agreed. It always pissed me off how all these other MW teams had players like a Moemeka and we couldn't ever land one. He's exactly the type of recruit I've been wanting as the standard for the Pokes for years. Athletic bigs with potential to expand their game, dudes that can play above the rim. That redshirt is gonna pay off HUGE for this guy. If we can get others to survive that redshirt season in the same vein then the Pokes are just gonna be a top 4 MWC year in and out.

He reminds me of Derek Fisher. He doesn't have the size or athleticism to really belong at this level, but he has enough to get by, plays intelligently and knows his role.

Actually, our depth on the Dembo/ Leckner teams wasn't all that great. We had no one behind Leckner, and it took two in rotation to even come close to Dembo's scoring average. Every game Leckner fouled out or got into foul trouble early was either a close win or a loss. Same with Fennis. There were also a few losses that probably were a result of our starting five being gassed after short breaks. This season's roster is easily one or two players deeper than those teams, and next season's will probably be the deepest roster in Wyoming Cowboys' Basketball history.

Yeah I agree that this team and next years team especially will be the deepest teams I have seen at Wyoming.

The Dembo/Leckner teams depth wasn't bad. I agree at center there was a huge drop off when Leckner went out because we basically had Dave Lodgins to come in but the guard rotation of Dent, Turk Boyd, Reggie Fox and Robyn Davis was very good with no drop off when any of those guys substituted in. The front court forward spots with Dembo, Sommers and Willie Jones was a good rotation also. Of course when you have anyone as good as Dembo and Leckner there will be some drop off just because of how great those two were.
