This is a bit off topic, but I had a thought on how we could improve our rancid special teams.. Remember under Glenn we used to do the reverse, fake reverse on kickoffs with the two deep guys every time? We used to get massive chunks of yardage nearly every time. I feel like this is a cheap trick that could really help

I'd like to see Yarbrough held out of the scrimmage, or limit to a few plays. Guys like Yarbrough, Wick, Gentry and some other veterans really have nothing to prove. Avoiding injuries to your star players is crucial at this juncture. When I look back at the injury situation last year I shudder in horror. We were a bowl team last season if we are full strength. I would hate to lose a stud for a somewhat meaningless game. It's great for guys fighting to get noticed by the staff, but that's about it.

That is a BOLD statement sir. Certainly possible I guess, I think we are still shy of 6 without the big injuries.

I've thought a lot about this, too. I don't know. My thought went like this, if we replayed every game 10 times what would be the outcome (obviously all theoretical).

I think Oregon, MSU, and BSU beats us 10 times. I think USU and CSU probably (last year) beat us the majority of the time (say 7 times).

Basically that leaves 7 toss-ups. From there, it is like flipping a coin. You certainly could get 6 heads out of 7 tosses, but not likely.

And look at injuries sustained a week before or during our close losses. SJSU could've been a different story, Hawaii, CSU, USU and UNM.
Hawaii seriously haunts me when thinking of the injuries on defense. We had a significant lead, two defensive possessions, add two defensive injuries and we can't contain Hawaii's O, and they make their comeback.
USU we were already down several players, O and D. Wick and May were gone, O line were dinged up, Defense was in shambles and still made USU struggle. Once we hit UNM. We were completely depleted on D. Our core backfield was mostly Frosh. Our LBs were struggling ever since the loss of Nzeocha and we struggled to contain in coverage and gaps, and still almost won on a last minute incompletion to Gentry.
This team was VERY close to being an 8-9 win team last year. Yes, that is generous. But had we stayed healthy I see almost all of those games I just mentioned being close wins similar to AFA and FAU. If that happened everyone would've been ecstatic with the seasons record, and our complainers would've complained how we were not as good as our record showed because we could've easily lost all those games.
I, for one really believed with the new offensive scheme, toughest schedule, and players we had was going to amount to a similar display of rotten play to that of Koenings first two years. 0-4 wins, close wins if we got them, and the losses, all bad, similar to the Boise game.
But then Bohl and Co. Show poise throughout games. They show this team is more capable than most anyone thought, and even continue to fight through the knocks of injuries. Even though WYO was 4-8 last year, we were the Dark Horse that nobody wanted to play. We were not a guaranteed Win for anybody, even the better teams in the league (exception Boise). I think Bohl turned some heads in this conference and people will be fearing the Cowboys soon.
I was not a firm believer in going after Bohl when we were discussing coaching options, I have since changed my mind. I think we have a group of coaches who are going to turn the corner with this program. I just hope it's not a few years to build, a couple of years of great success and then they all leave.

Cowboy tough is back! Go POKES!!!

I'll just say - from what I have seen so far, I'm impressed with Coach Bohl's management of his coaching staff, the team, the recruiting process, and the way he gets along with the media and the fans. When we get quality depth at every position, then we will challenge BSU for the top of the MWC.
