Wow....Appleby named as starter at NT ahead of Uso Olive. Good for Chase! Everything is earned....it a new era.

UW depth chart thoughts

Some initial thoughts:

–No surprise that redshirt senior Colby Kirkegaard is No. 1 at quarterback. But I was a little surprised that sophomore Tom Thornton moved up to “or” with senior Sam Stratton as the No. 2 guy, and that sophomore Aaron Young — a junior college transfer who played in a pro-style offense in junior college — is at No. 4.

Here’s what Bohl said about the quarterbacks: “Colby has separated himself slightly over the other guys. His understadning and competentcy is a little bit better. There is a tie with Tom and Sam, and those guys are making plays. Colby has a little better command of the offense, not only with his reads but where he’s supposed to go with the football and putting it where it needs to be.”

Wyoming announces first spring depth chart

Here are a few comments from Wyoming coach Craig Bohl on the release of the depth chart.

On redshirt senior Colby Kirkegaard being listed as the starter at quarterback:

“Colby’s probably managing the offense the best out of all of the guys. They all have their strengths, but as far as the total package with his reads, placing the ball where it needs to be, his throwing ability, all those things. Those decisions are never easily made and the depth chart is certainly not etched in stone, but we felt like it was important at this juncture of spring football to start to segment some things out. It doesn’t have an impact on how many reps these guys are getting right now. But we felt like Colby is the top guy there.”

My point with all of this - my enthusiasm for the new staff is there, but my expectation level is similar to many others. I don't believe we will light the world on fire, probably 5-7 or 4-8. But that's OK. I like what I see happening. The kids are actually allowed to tackle in practice, imagine that. They are in better shape physically (strength and stamina), and will be in better shape mentally by the time fall rolls around. I think Bohl and the staff have things headed the right direction, but only time will tell. Gotta love being a Cowboy fan. I can't wait for fall. Go Pokes.

Bohl has a tried-and-true approach to being successful, obviously. "Tom Osborne 101" as he says. I did like Stratton's comment after Bohl took the blue jerseys off the QBs for the second scrimmage: "It felt good, and after that first hit your brain goes into a different place." At the other end, you don't like hearing that guys like Montgomery got "shellacked" at the end of the scrimmage and might have a concussion, but that's the mentality Bohl & staff are instilling in the program.

Lots of memories (good and bad) in that list of coaches you posted.

Uso #2?

I think it's safe to say that Uso won't settle for anything less than a "starter" tag at NT. Should be a great motivational tool for him heading into the spring game and throughout the summer and fall camp. At the same time, fans should be very happy with Appleby's production in the eyes of the coaches. Need that depth.

In all honesty, I want the different bewteen 1&2, especially on the lines, to be so small, it's practically insignificant.

When DC was here, outside the RBs and possibly the recievers, the differences were huge.

That is true. And head coaches use these depth charts as tools for motivation every year. Reward Chase for his excellent spring, and leave Uso hungrier than ever.

Wyoming's Lange breaks through with three sacks in scrimmage

Riley Lange waited nearly five years between sacks.

Think about how long five years really is. Five years ago, the Dave Christensen Era was in its infancy. Brett Smith was a scrawny high school junior in Oregon. Tim Tebow was a Florida Gator, and the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback was Kyle Orton ... and Chris Simms.

Five years ago, Lange feasted on a steady diet of quarterbacks. In his senior season at Ponderosa High School in Parker, Colo., the 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive end recorded 135 tackles, 15 sacks and 20 tackles for loss.

You know my single biggest worry going into this season, Second half adjustments and playing to win not playing to not lose. I really get that the practices look great but I get this feeling that Bohl isn't the type of coach to run the score up which means play to not lose and not play to win.

I do think he will make second half adjustments which CDC I don't think realized could be done. but I'm pretty worried if this team will have that kick them when they are down mentality instead of coast and hope.

I don't agree here Wyo2dal. Coach Bohl is all about winning and his record shows that.

I agree he is about winning and his record shows it but his points all come in the first half. I am still worried that moving from FCS to FBS and facing teams that have the capability of turning it on in the second half. We only saw one NDSU game where the second half mattered and that was against KS.

Color me not convinced until I see him coach for an entire game it's the pessimistic side of me that I can't seem to shake.
